How do you use the cutting torch?

I just got the cutting torch and need to use it on the panel to get back to transit but it says "move keys to cut" I've been button mashing for the past 20 minutes and can't get the torch to actually move and start cutting. am I missing something obvious? I've used my movement keys and the arrow pad, I actually got it to move for a second but I don't know how.

I just wanted to ask did you find it before or after you meet up with the two that eva over with you?

Theres loads of cuttable doors around me and im starting to feel like i missed the pickup lol

I'm on the seventh mission when I found it, and I think that the only location you can get it as far as I know, I past loads of doors I couldn't access either, I just assumed I'd be doing some backtracking eventually

Thanks man i feel at ease with contiuing the story now. Dodnt want to carry on only to find i couldnt finish it because i had not cutter.

You follow the direction of cutting by holding D, when you get to the end horizontally she'll stop then you hold S to go down. Rinse and repeat.
