Alien franchise shared universes
There are numerous hints that the Alien franchise and Blade Runner share the same universe. Some of it comes from Ridley Scott himself.

So I was wondering, do you think it would make sense if the Alien movies also shared universe with the Avatar franchise? James Cameron directed both Aliens and Avatar.

Do you think Avatar 2 might have hidden Alien references? Would you like to see what the aliens could do on Pandora? Like what new types could be born etc.

If that's the case he shouldn't have used Sigourney Weaver twice.

I don't think it even makes sense that Alien and Blade Runner are the same universe. I think it's a product of the same Ridley Scott gobbledygook that spawned the last two prequel films, but nothing organic that's built into the two universese to actually warrant a connection. Blade Runner is about human society, while Alien is about everything outside of it. They are about as connected as Day and Night.

Hard to disagree there.
Also, regarding that Avatar stuff, no, doesn't fit, again two completely different beasts.

Alien + Blade Runner makes perfect sense imo. We never see Earth in the Alien franchise but it would make perfect sense for it to be like in Blade Runner. A corporation driven dystopia. Also there is the synthetic connection.

I agree that the Avatar connection would be a big stretch but Aliens on Pandora would make a cool premise for a film imo.

You could technically splice any fictional "universe" into any other fictional "universe" just by saying they were in different galaxies. You could tie our world, the Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars together just reasoning that: we live in the Milky Way; the LotR world could be in one of the nearby Andromeda galaxies (there are at least 20 of them); the setting of Star Wars (their writers never named their galaxy, they only refer to it very creatively refer to only as "the galaxy") could be in another Andromeda galaxy...

You would probably have to assume that none of these civilizations has had direct contact with each other. You could possibly write a story that maybe some lone explorer found one of the other civilizations by accident, and you could invent some reason for why the news of this never passed on well enough for the cultures to gain widespread knowledge of each others' existence.

Of course what's official canon is usually decided by the author and/or owner of the intellectual property, so this would be in the realm of fanfiction... Even Ridley Scott putting some tongue-in-cheek Easter eggs from one of his works into another one isn't enough for me to say that they're adopting a crossover as canon, but who knows what the company holding the rights to these settings might decide in the future.

I don't know about Blade Runner and Alien, but I believe in James Cameron's script for Aliens, Ash was referred to as a Cyberdyne Systems model android. He later changed it to 'Hyperdyne Systems'.

Another fun tidbit is some interviewer asked Cameron who would win in a war between Na'vi and Xenomorphs. Cameron went with the Na'vi because of their ranged weapons. Yes, he was probably biased toward his own creations, but it's still interesting.

Bows and arrows vs Xenomorphs? Sorry but the Na'vi would be wiped out. Imagine all the Xeno variants that could spawn from the Pandoran fauna.

I didn't because I thought it went without saying that most people find it dumb. Sigourney Weaver and others who were involved with the Alien series didn't want the series handed over to generic action movie directors, let alone a cheesy crossover -- but Fox does what it wants. Prometheus was their attempt to regain credibility and try to steer it back under Ridley Scott's vision, but I feel it came a bit too late. The latest movie is kind of too much of a curveball in itself, in my opinion.

Crossovers aren't really new, they sort of happen unofficially whenever new franchises are born. The old novel Starship Troopers ('59) seemed to start off the whole concept of space marines vs. an army of neverending bug-like killing machines. This lended some inspiration to the Alien series ('79), as well as Warhammer 40k's Tyranid race (Genestealers in '89, other forms in '90). The concept was again used in the PC game StarCraft ('98) and its Zerg race. There are a ton of quotes from the movie Aliens in that game.

One could argue that the first inspiration for the AvP crossover was the Protoss race in StarCraft.
I find it mildly hilarious that its warriors, called Zealots,[i.ytimg.com] have dreads and short blades that mount to their arms as their primary weapons. They sort of look like psychic Egyptian versions of the Predators to me. They form an uneasy alliance with the Terrans to help them fight the Zerg. I'm still trying to figure out where Predator got its initial inspiration from, though -- to me, they all just look like tribal Jamaican bodybuilders who have 'roid rage and are obsessed with hunting.
