Alien showing up early?
I never got around to finishing the game when I first purchased it because I'd watched Markiplier's playthrough and it was too fresh in my memory so the game was much less interesting. Anyway, I'm returning now to actually play through it and I've run into something that has me confused, namely that the xenomorph seems to be showing up early. In the first two attempts at getting through the game, it never appeared for real (i.e. as part of the game rather than a cutscene) prior to the medbay. This time around though, I heard it drop out of a vent as I was getting on the train after Axel was killed, and then I was just killed by it at the entrance to tech support while on the mission to fix the access tuner which is still before the cutscene where it drops out of the ceiling for the first time.

So I guess the question is what's going on here? Was I just lucky the first two playthroughs? Does the fact that I'm playing on hard change when the xenomorph shows up? Is my playthrough bugged?

Help is appreciated.

Adding to everything above, the alien does start hunting you when it drops out of the ceiling in San Cristobal MF. Before that it's a small possibility. Also it will stop doing it so actively after the explosion. Then it will came after you again when you try to lock it down in the server farm. However the worst level (for me) is mission 17 with the long corridor after the Canteen, where you have to came and go. That is real terror.

I gotta agree with that one!

Perfectly normal. After Axel dies and you call the tram, the Alien will drop down and kill you if you do not enter the tram and leave the area. And, it will do it rather quickly. Usually within 5 seconds of it arriving.

The next time I remember seeing it was when I was trying to find the flight recorder for the Nostromo and back up battery for the hacking tool. When you go into the area with the room that has the keycard and gun on the table, if you enter that area SLOWLY you will 'startle' the Alien and it will growl and run off but it can be seen.

So odd, I noticed it on my last play through but not my other prior ones. I only heard the HISS though, didn't see anything.

Been my experience that a lot of Steve's scripts & actions depend on the difficulty level you're playing the game on. I've played through on NOVICE & even running around and banging on stuff with the jack you can hear him approaching but he doesn't drop down (to attack) until MEDICAL. On the harder levels I can't even sneak some places and he's on top of me...

I think that's a real testament to the programmers and the way they scripted him to react depending on how you want to play the game. A lot of comments in the forums are about how Steve "CHEATS" and how hard the game is... yet these same people always say "but I really like a challenge"...yeah right.

The difficulty levels are there so you can customize and fine tune the way you want to defeat him or have him eat you and they do a VERY good job!

Oh yea sorry: Steve was actually the name given to the alien by director Ridley Scott. In the first film the alien was played by BOLEJI BADEJO a tall African stuntman, Ridley couldn't pronounce his name correctly so ended up calling him STEVE :-)
