Actually, even if Isolation had horrible gameplay mechanics, I'd still say it is canon-worthy. The story is excellent.
I want to believe that the space station "Sevastopol" exists in the Alien universe and that everything that happened in this game also happened in the Alien universe.
I want to believe that because it fits in the Alien universe. It's well written, it's terrifying, it's plausible.
Colonial Marines on the other hand... is....... not any of those things.
even though the developers never said the game was canon to the movies?

Yes, even though the developers said it was never meant to be canon with the movies, I still want to imagine this game exists in the same universe as the Alien movies.
That doesn't mean I'm going to say this game is canon. Just that I think it should be. And the reason I think it should be is because it's f****** brilliant. It's better than much of the stuff that is canon, such as Colon Marines and Prometheus.
Look on the bright side, at least Prometheus retconned AvP.
Sevastopol is 100% a legit place that would exist in Alien Unverise.
Yeah, it's too bad the developers avoided confirming the canon status of Alien Isolation
Wot? In most cases video game medium has far more depth to lore than a linear movie.. Pretty sure you got that backwards, and is the exact reason why movies based off of games generally suck a turd because it's hard to fit a game with rich lore into a 2 hour romp.
There are also lots of visual references, such as the hacking tool.
*sigh* Smh
