M.A.S. 0414 ???

I'm around chapter 6 or so in the game right now and whenever I open my inventory/crafting screen it displays in the top right corner M.A.S. 0414 and then a series of 4 numbers that's increasing. Does this have any significance in the game or is it just for show?

I just now came searching for an answer for this. I'm on my second playthrough of the game after several years and of all things I just now see this myself. I don't recall ever seeing this "MAS" counter before in the inventory menu. I just tried the no HUD mod and that's when I saw it for whatever reason. I thought the mod might have been introducing it so I uninstalled it but the counter is still there so it must be a default feature in the inventory screen. Its weird that I don't ever recall seeing this before until now. I can't find much info on this myself. Perhaps its just for show to make the screen look more "gadgety"?
