Alien: Isolation
Tips on handling facehuggers?
Does anyone have any tips for handling the facehuggers in the reacter core ? I got to the part where I'm now heading back up top but this one facehugger keeps on tripping me up and I'm scared to kill it without cover nearby (that's how I handled the facehuggers in the eggs. Kill them and duck in a cabinet or under a table as quickly as possible and wait for the aliens to leave) because I don't want to attract the aliens.

How many facehuggers are you going to have to encounter when you're about to head back up top and what are some good ways of handling them

Just hit them with the wrench. You can't evade them.

And FYI, the part you blanked out as a "spoiler" is kind of pointless because the thread topic is in itself a spoiler.

My main concern is that when they die, they emit a loud squael that attracts the alien. I'd also like some tips on how to spot them in the water and how many I'm gonna have to deal with on the way back up top.

The squeal itself shouldn't worry you (it's not one of the sound effects that draw the alien), but you killing them makes noise, so you just have to accept it.

As for how many more you'll have to deal with, hard to say. I don't think anyone bothered to count them and it also varies depending on where you visit when exploring stuff, but you will run into quite a few more.
I'm pretty sure the squeal does attract the alien. When I burned up an egg earlier, the alien came right out.

Of course it did, you used the flamethrower.
you can usually hear then running to you, once i hear that i get in a corner and hit them with a flamethrower. I just passed that part without dying once. AND try to search as many places as possible, because a lot of them have flamethrower ammunition. Also, if you missed the flamethrower, it is on a box to the left as soon as you enter the nest. Hope this helps :)
It's not the screeching of the facehugger that attracts the alien, it's the FWOOSH of your flamethrower.

Also, just tap them with the flamthrower. Quick nanosecond tap of the flamethrower is enough to kill them. Then move. If an alien comes down, tap that with the flamethrower too.
i fought less than 10 on hard.
best way i dealt with them was i heard them scream then they ran at me and i tapped them with the flamer

if the alien came just hit it with the flamer. where you are at just hope you have alot of flamer fuel because it very much needed.
Quick tap of the flame thrower and it will kill the face hugger. Thats how weak it is. Prepare yourself to deal with the Xenomorph, as it's attracted to any gun fire.
Use the wrench unless you're playing on Nightmare (=health is expensive).
I killed one with the stun baton once. It was an accident but I'm still proud of it. (I thought I had the flamethrower equipped but it was the baton and I fired anyway and hit it just as it pounced)
yeah depends what mode yoyr playing m8

Strangely I played on hard and found that using the flame thrower didnt attract the alien unless it saw the actual flame. Auditorly I didn't notice it had any effect at all.

Maybe you got lucky and when you used it the alien just happened to be out of hearing-range for the flamethrower. I think the flamethrower makes less noise than gunshots where the alien is concerned, so the alien can hear the flamethrower from, say, 50 metres away, but can hear gunshots from 75 metres (not exact numbers, just random ones I pulled out of my behind to demonstrate my point).

Which makes sense, obviously the guns are way louder than a "fwoosh".
