I hate the fighting, especially fighting the rock monsters
They take like no damage and just chip away at your health, if you try to stun lock them eventually you push them up against a wall where instead of hitting them you swing wildly behind them while they can still hit you.

Directionally things just are frustrating. Getting stuck swinging one way while something is in another direction, the same with farming when you're trying to water a row and it keeps trying to water the wrong direction. Then trying to walk up to a mound to dig, you need to click it with the mouse instead of facing it and interacting with the tool.

It would be more helpful if the character always faced towards where the mouse was for actions like fighting, and interacting.

when fighting the rock monsters keep some space and swing your sword when they shoot pebbles at you it'll send it back into their face and do more damage.

Rock monsters only take real damage from their own projectiles. You can goad them into firing faster by swinging at them.

The combat in this game is the worst part. None of the enemies are particular tough, but they're all annoying. They all have some sort of mechanic that you're forced to wait for an attack opening or a counter. Not ideal.

Fortunately, the rest of the game is really good, so it's not a deal breaker, but I would like to see the combat be a little better. I'm hoping for something similar to Rune Factory combat - maybe not great, but it's not actively bad.

Yeah I'd like something like rune factory, it was like fighting in a pinball machine.

I think the combat is fine, it's certainly more interesting than I was expecting from a game like this.

Most of the monsters are really easy if you take 5 seconds to learn their patterns and have the tiniest amount of patience.

I agree with jinx, the combat is fun..hope they won't change it...the rock monsters are the most annoying, yes..but very satisfying when i swung their projectiles back at them..tastes your own freaking medicine..lol..

That's funny, it's one of the few things I found improved compared to Stardew. I liked that there were actual mechanics to the comment and I could avoid damage reasonably well if I tried.

I don't understand the amount of people complaining about combat when its literally fine its more enjoyable than stardew valley for sure because I can actually avoid damage when you know every patterns which are easy to understand

No problem, it's all about observing their patterns. You'll get more attuned to their gearing up to spit animation the more you play.

problem with combat is that every attack moves you foward and I often and up swinging the air when play as in all other games of the type.
After few dives to mines I got used to it but first few runs were rough.

Also it's so weird to click for every swing instead of holding the button (especially for mining/tree cutting).

Doesn't change the fact that the games is awesome already

Yeah, there was a recent thread that started out talking about the combat, but in the end discussed the clunkiness of the controls in general.

Edit: Hit detection, target selection and stance is weird.

Interesting. I actually really like the combat because you have to learn their pattern not just swing fast.

I really love the combat in this game, love how all the different enemies have a little gimmick you need to learn in order to kill them instead of just mindlessly swing your sword, once you learn what you need to do it makes the combat even easier.
I'm on year 1 Summer Day 18 I think, with mostly copper gear, except the iron boots, iron sword and I take almost no damage when I go to the mines now, at first I used to have to bring food with me to replenish health but now I only use it to replenish stamina. The damage mitigation from the armor plus learning the enemies attack patterns make it very easy after a while.

It's really not complicated, the mushrooms and the lamps can be killed faster if you use the jump attack to stun them, the rock guys only need to swat their pebbles back at them and honestly you don't have to kill everything, as long as you can mine the ore and move on to the other floor ignore them

using a lot of movement makes fights go by quicker, and a big part of improving the combat experience is leveling up combat at the caldarus statue located specifically in the mines entrance. you can't level up combat or mining perks at the statue on your farm, so it's important to keep that in mind.
the most important perk to invest in is the jump attack. makes fighting the jumping sap guys and the mushrooms a total breeze because you can attack them without getting hurt no matter what they're actively doing. i mean, unless you don't move just a little bit out of the sap's way mid jump.
you can still hit enchanterns when they're agro and take that brief shock, because it's actually not that much damage. when restoring energy to keep mining you'll restore hp anyways.
the rock guys have been explained by the other comments, but I will say that it is so easy to just stand behind a rock out of their range. you can also jump over rocks to avoid them more easily, just takes some getting used to. i'll also mention that when smacking their bullets back at them, you can go ahead and smack the pebble guy itself to get it to immediately start attacking again.
you don't have to be all too patient, actually.
