Travellers Rest? I heard about the game, but never tried. Is it good?
love it, the devs are always active and i feel like its growing with every update because they do so much, like i said i hated it at first, it was just so tedious to play but they fixed most of it and its still early access with good content coming ontop of an already feature rich game in my opinion, 100% can recommend

It's a great game as of the last update. Really worth checking out.

This game is gay-er than SV. But it's still fun. At least it has a couple of hot women. But I don't expect it to be groundbreaking.

I mean this in the kindest way possible, but it is important to remember that farm sims as a genre have been around for a long time pre SDV (see Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, etc), a lot of aspects of SDV are actually common features or tropes found in the majority of these sort of games (farming/harvesting, monster fighting, marriage with npcs, customizing your home, everything down to a town bathhouse to recharge lol).

That being said, I think we should all give it a chance without assuming what it should/shouldnt be like. As someone who's played a butt ton of farming sims since the early 2000s, I can see the personal touch with character designs and personalities alone. I believe that comparing any sort of game to another in the same genre (without adding valid criticism) sucks the joy out of the game for both players AND the devs.

If it has some similar traits, I can assure you said traits were probably not original to SDV and could be tracked aaaallllll the way back to the og harvest moon games. But if you found out that you like farm sims from SDV, why not give the game a chance? It'll be another fun game to play, at the least :heartoful:

it's more like the newer harvest moon games x animal crossing than sdv imo

I mean yeah lots of similarities but I like the DS-era nostalgia graphics, the in-game character portraits are cleaner and I think the different farm animals+ breeding different colors mechanic will be fun as that wasn't available in SDV (there were blue chickens but those were exclusive to people who romanced Shane). I'm excited to see as it develops :)

y'all need to chill, dude was just asking what the differences are between a very obviously similar game.

I swear, this whole "guestions are personal attacks" mentality the internet has been developing needs to stop.

Stardew Valley for the time being may feel different as new unique things just been released in it's recent update, but seeing Traveller's Rest trailer and Fields of Mistra trailer kinda ticking my mind that they are maybe not exactly the same games as temathically they work on a similar yet vastly different aspect, because in Fields of Mistria, you are a "magical" farmer, which based on discover the world around you and find mysteries which progresses the story, while in Stardew Valley, you have to do things mostly physically as a farmer and befriend with townfolks, while the story progress with what things you do to your farm and in Traveller's Rest, you can farm, while traveling as well, but your primary occupation is actually an innkeeper. Make a tavern popular over being productive in your farm are completely two different things and I think Fields of Mistra wants to be different in a way like that it's just in the early phase and it cannot be seen yet, but I feel it's potential.

AT MY ACTUAL PROGRESS POINT

it's like SV but with what fae farm adds to it

• mines every 20 lvls asks gifts to unlock next mine and gives you a power
• you have superpowers
• can jump and swim
• can catch bugs

and what coral island adds to it

• town ranks to upgrade
• many dateable chars
• fish and bugs in museum

and now what this game adds to it

• cute pixel art in a sailor moon style
• very pleasant animation and gameplay overall
• you can fully change your appearance/name/farm name whenever you want for free
• lots of old zelda games ref nicely hidden
• very cool mob patterns in caves i LOVE IT
• do not need to pay to upgrade your tools since you make them yourself
• cosmetics are stored in a very smart way, you'll see what i mean asap in game
• making money early is not a pain, game is fun and fun and cute
• tutorials are very well done

It, OFC, needs some QoL but things will come with time and nothing that's killing the fun, even game crashs

I should post that as a review ngl, will do

What does Sonic do differently? It's just Mario with different graphics.

i didnt play fae farm or coral, but in Mistria jumping/swimming is enjoyable, even catching fish by swimming and diving was so cool for me. I also feel early game energy bar isnt as strict as stardew and you dont just pass out from accidentally using all your energy

I know we're all annoyed with everything being compared to Stardew Valley, but I think it's a fair question overall. The demo was fine, but I didn't feel like it gave me a reason to pick up this game instead one of the other hundreds of farming on Steam, aside from if you find the aesthetic pleasing.

For example, swimming was something I just learned about because of this thread. Relatively speaking, there aren't many games, let alone farming sims, that let you do that. Is it put to good use for exploration or anything, or is it just kind of there?

I will say the most important I see it makes different is interactions! folks are the best, Idon't get tired of talking to the town people since they are not plain and borring, they also talk to each other and talk about stuff that are happening in the game, or about events they had with you or with the other town folks (like the D&D players will sometimes tell u something about the game)
