This is true it's posted in steam discussion here by Sonic. He is a mod on discord. It will be released march/April with content not in beta along with beta content.
You've never developed a game before, have you? If you give this as a graduation project to college students, they’d come up with something better in just three months. This is just abandoned and turned into a cash cow. Injured for how long? Might be 2 years?
Have you developed a commercial game?

Does it matter where I work? I work in software development for a company that anyone would recognize by name, and I’ve also worked on two game projects. This game requires less effort to develop than a Flash game from the '90s.

I can guarantee that if this were made by programmers in a company, a team of two or three people could develop a game five times larger than this in under 20 weeks. They didn’t even develop their own engine, so there’s absolutely no reason this should have taken a long time.

As I know, like SCP, the story and setting of this game are already based on existing material, wikisite or youtube or whatever. No creativity is needed—just a team of 10 coding grunts, and this could be done in 2~3 months.

Which part do you think would take a long time? backend? frontend? Lv design? sound?

The projects i worked on required orchestral music recordings and motion capture using inhouse equipment. Even for such large scale projects, four months were enough to complete, with only a team of five developers.

The only thing this game truly needs, and takes time is QA, and that’s something required AFTER an update, not a reason for the update cycle to be delayed.

Simply in other words, this is DEAD sir, Or at least that level

I simply asked if you developed games not where you worked and you asked first implying it had some relevancy to the question. So you opened that door not me.
He asked if a rumor was true that's it. Not your opinion on it.
I answered and told him what was relayed by the discord moderator.
No creativity? You take the base material and augment it. It's a wiki of descriptors and images you still need to create the game beyond that.

I was just about to buy this with the group and saw the comments, thank you for saving us the wasted money! 2 hours of playtime is not worth it, would rather give it to a dev who cares about their audience
I understand it's incomplete also why it's only $8. Also probably less than 2 hours if you are familiar with backrooms games. I would not exclude it from thought as i do enjoy it but definitely make up yoir own mind what you are comfortable spendong your money on.
I would check if More content comes out in March/April as has been mentioned.
I don't fault people for not buying or being unhappy. Only if they spread false information. Everyone has to make up their own mind. The original poster is saying it's dead and it's still in active development albeit slow since there are only 2 developers. So his comment about teams and 10 coding grunts is irrelevant.

What role do you fill in game development? Generally curious as I have familiarity with game development and what it entails as well. I am application developer and hobby of game development.

I don't know which country you live in, but I can assure you that in the US, a team of two senior-year college students can create five times the amount of content in one year compared to this game. This game essentially has no story and is just a jump-scare game, and it doesn't even have its own engine. I hope many consumers buy another better games. I would recommend not purchasing it for more than $5
You said the game was dead it is not dead regardless of progress being slow.
I would recommend anyone on the fence wait until may to see if new content comes out. Otherwise if unsure don't buy early access

It's not SLOW. It's almost DEAD. It's just undergoing rigor mortis.
Again not dead. Still developing. You should understand the difference since you are in software development right?
Anyone unsure wait until may to see if ANYTHING is released.
