record a smiler on first backrooms lvl

my partner and i almost finished the 1st level after me dying 394782349427834 times and us starting over. however, the last task we had (after he died) was for one of us to record a smiler. i did twice while j chilling on the pitfalls to avoid the big monster guy but it didn't give me credit. i eventually quit... is this a bug? am i doing something wrong? i am clicking 'c' to record and right clicking on my mouse to zoom in on the smiler... not sure why it didnt work :-(

This same thing happened to me, I tried to record it multiple times and it didn't count. Then I fell into the pitfall, died, and watched my friend record it without a problem on the first try. I'm not sure why this happened.

Same problem with me and my friend. After trying multiple times we got to record it by standing on the pits. I think the clue is to stand closer to the smiler and you have to be out of a hidy hole.
