Divine Divinity

Error after configuration - Resolutions backwards
Hello everyone,

I just purchased the Divinity Anthology and installed Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity on my Lenovo Yoga 13. When I start the game I'm continually prompted to reset my configuration. Apon being prompted, I proceed to reset my configuration again. The default selected settings are Direct 3D for rendering, 800x600 for the resolution, and "Smoothness" checked.

When I go to chage the resolution to a 16:9 resolution, I've notied that all of my resolutions are reversed except 800x600 (i.e.: 480x640, 768x1024, 720x1280, 900x1600).

I can get the game running on my desktop with Windows 8 pro and a nVidia gtx460, but I'm unable to get beyond the configuration screen on my laptop. Has anyone hd the same problem that can help guide me in solving the problem?

My system:
Lenovo Yoga 13
1600x900 native resolution
Intel i7-3517U @ 1.9GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 8 64bit
Intel HD Graphics 4000

I don't recall ever seeing that reported before. Does Windows display the resolutions properly if you change the desktop resolution?

Try right clicking on the shortcut for the configuration program (or the configtool.exe program in the Divine Divinity install folder) and running it as administrator.

Alternately, just set the game to run at 800x600 (quit if it starts), then in Windows Explorer browse to the Divine Divinity install folder and edit the config.div file (in Notepad or another text editor) to manually set the desired resolution.

If that doesn't fix the problem of the game wanting to reset the configuration files, try copying over the config.* and *.cfg files from the Divine Divinity folder on your desktop (move or rename the current files first, if you wish).

I thought the reversed resolutions was pretty odd myself. I did a simple restart, and that seems to have fixed that problem.

I was again propted that "Divinity was not correctly terminated the last time." So I reset my configuration and saved a new configuration with 800x600 and clicked "Apply & Close." After I close the configuration window, no other windows appear for any length of time. I just get a Divinity Error every time I start up Divine Divinity saying that it was not correctly terminated, please reset the configuration.

I tried moving the config.* and *.cfg files to my desktop. Divinity said that it coudn't read the configuration files and closes. I get the same when I run the configuration tool. It prompts me with a "Unable to read configuration files - Exiting" window, then shows me the window to reset my config.

I'm also unable to run a test from the configtool. I get an error saying "Initialisation of this mode failed."

Did you verify local files for the game? Actually, since you have the game installed on your desktop, as well, you could compare the two install folders. If you delete the files in the dynamic folder on your desktop, and maybe move any saves somewhere else temporarily, you can use a folder comparison program if you have the computers networked, or just use something like DVDsig[freezip.cjb.net] to scan your desktop install (copy it to the DD folder, run it and click Scan), and then copy the program and md5 file it creates to the DD folder on the laptop, run the program and click on Verify.

Did you try copying the configuration files from your desktop computer to your laptop? There were a few people that had crashes on startup with the disk version when creating the configuration files in Direct3D mode (though not with the error messages, etc, that you are getting), but the game would work fine if the files already existed, so they could be copied from another computer. At least in that case all that needed to be copied were the config.div, slashed.cfg and slashed-d3d6.cfg files.

Did you try running the game as administrator, in comparability mode, etc, or check the topics linked to in the Crashes on launch discussion?

I didn't end up installing to my laptop's desktop, but I did try using the configuration files from my desktop PC. That did the trick. I still have the game running as admin and from the program files (x86) at the moment. The problem seems to be the install location. On my desktop PC, I have steam installed in a separate drive and folder from Program Files (x86).

Thank you for all of your help Raze. I'm not far at all, but I'm enjoying the game thus far. :)

Focusfreak mentioned above using the configuration files from the desktop to get it working on the laptop. You can try downloading my config files[members.shaw.ca], extract them into your 'Divine Divinity' install folder (backup/move the existing versions first, if you wish, or delete mine if they don't help and verify local files for the game), edit the config.div file in Notepad (or other text editor) to set the desired resolution, and see if the game will start.

Hi Yiuni,

As Raze said, I ended up using good working config file that I had on my desktop. I can dig up the config file, but you can also try Raze's that he has the link already setup in his reply. If that doesn't work I can also post a link to the one I used to get it up and running.

I hope it works out.

I had the same problem-.
after a crash the game said, it needed reset. But nothing works.

Then I shot down Steam and start the game like other programs and then it worked.
After start steam new, all was ok.

So... Close Steam, start the game in your program files, end the game, start steam, start the game and be happy :)
