Clean the servers of old buildings.
Give you a reason to keep playing, since the content is not that big. Although, my low population server, seem that is even more demotivated as the season progresses.
Look, I can find fun in the repetition, but there are certain elements that are putting me off. I don't like the new system of having a camp deleted, I wish would last for 24 hours, as long I login within the time limit. My vehicles that can have a mobile base is getting deleted in 24 hours, what I find an absurd, as it kills it's purpose. Would rather give it like one week, if the owner didn't log in.
The prices for the cosmetics are absurdly high. No good prices for my currency.
And of course, the lack of players can be a bummer when you are looking for a necessary coop.
Personally I don't like the punitive deaths, of losing something random, and then have a time limit to get it. And even the PvE servers will have some PvP element there.
Stagnation, boredom is the bane of every old MMORPG. People have collected every rare, killed every boss, done everything and they have nothing left to do but sit at the bank showing off their rare mounts and rare stuff.
Wiping the slate clean gives people something to do. A sense of purpose.
Season wipes solve this by giving you a fresh slate and 8 more chances every Season. Sometimes you get good ones, sometimes you don't. But, you don't really want to be stuck with ♥♥♥♥ Spec rolls, do you? Nope. So, play until wipe and then join a new Season and try again.
Not only that, but as others have pointed out, it's roguelite. You get stronger every Season. Starchrom rewards every Season allows you to draw from the Wish Machine and boost your Legendary equips, making you stronger each time. Plus, the transfer points allow you to bring some things over from Eternaland every Season. It really makes things move faster. Craft a Chainsaw and a Drill before one Season ends, use TP's to bring them into the beginning of the next Season and you've got end game tools to give you an early Season boost. It's super handy being able to fell a tree in a second rather than chopping away with a crude pickaxe. Same for ores with the drill. Much faster so you can get leveled faster in the new Season. Materials are trivial to get early on using that method. It's really not a big deal at all to refill your coffers and build your base back up. The rest of my transfer points I save for hard to find seeds that I need for food and drink and maybe some materials from prior seasons if I'm having trouble finding certain resources. Or, if they haven't unlocked the area I can find certain resources (Red Sands and Blackfell have high level resources that you can't get to until Phase 2) then I can potentially use points to bring those resources and get my higher tiered equipment sooner, making me stronger than most other players on the server.
Plus, it's not like you can't make a blueprint of your final base in one Season, then rebuild it using the blueprint next Season. Heck, I've got 3 base designs saved for the various areas I might want to build in. What blueprint I use depends on what Specializations I get.
For example, if I don't get any specs that give me an easy way to make acid, then I'll break out my acid production blueprint and slap it down in a polluted area so I can pump impure acid and refine it into acid. If I get some good oil processing and acid production specs, I can put down my oil pumping blueprint in an oil area and make a mega ♥♥♥♥ ton of mixed and premium fuel. If I'm lucky enough to get a spot around Blackfell, then I have a base design for there to run both acid and oil.
The systems might seem weird at first but, once you understand how the game works, it makes a lot of sense as to why they have wipes.
Really, the game doesn't seem like it was made for casual gamers, but the addition of permanent servers that cater to casuals raises new problems. Like, what do you do when you've used all your spec cleaners, but you still have ♥♥♥♥ specializations? The server won't wipe. The devs will need a way to make sure perm server players can still get those. The downside is that eventually, everyone on the server will be max level, with the best specializations, and they'll be bored because they have nothing left to do. Then, I predict that perm server players will be asking for wipes. It's really a no-win situation for the devs.
My vehicle didn't get deleted. Just enter and exit.
The wipe makes it easier for you to take a break. Material farm is not that intensive, especially when you consider the drill and chainsaw you bring and the Digby Boys doing the majority of work.
Play games like Conan Exiles (I love this game) and try to take a break for 2-3 weeks or get of the game for half a year bc reasons and try to get back again. You will see the benefits of Once Human pretty fast.
Also it shouldn't even break it apart, just teleport it back to the player territory, and put it at the respectives garages. If no garage, then keep it disabled, till the owner can summon it back.
There is no need to be as it is, as it obnoxious.
And I'll repeat myself. Even the ones inside my territory garages are getting deleted.
And I played almost 3k hours wih Conan Exiles. Not a good example, as you can play it solo, on private servers and mod it. So whatever nuisance can be tweaked by the player and admins.
This.
Game developers simply cannot pump out content anywhere near the speed that you can clear it.
ARPGs have been doing Seasonal wipes for a while, so this is not a new concept.
Allow us to create OUR game as we desire with all options we want and the game allow (almost everything). Game files will can be located in our Computer, so not need to hire more servers.
I dream with Once Human allow me to build where I want without limits, exactly as we can do in Eternaland, but finaly i will can live in the house of my dreams with my goats, my farms, and sometimes going to kill things and looting.
And... maybe invite a friend to my CUSTOM GAME... all the needs the game have it already. Just need TO DO IT.
The story...
To stop all the people before you from claiming all the building land, leaving you with nothing but tiny patches between builds or having to go to the dangerous areas to build your starter house or that can only fit a standard territory in with no hope to upgrade.
But they are working on making perm servers...
I guess wouldn't be hard to let you let you rent your own private ones, they would have to be separate from official ones.
Like ark did.
Thats probably how they are going to do it lol
