it doesn't suck water up like a water pump. You have to pipe water to it. or feed it manually.

Exactly same issue here. I'm 3/6 at gens. Just using 3 H.Generators, yet only 1 works. Rest two both says "Facility lacks fuel" and "Non Functional" just below. Demolished, re-built gens, moved around water, nothing.

this. place water pump and install pipe (or whatever method you come up with for water) from pump to them then attach wires from them to something else

This is confusing now. Tried every suggestions here, still nothing works. Only 1st Hydro gen works just fine. 2nd+3rd, nothing. Just "Facility lacks fuel" and "Non Functional". And what about "feed it manually" or "install pipe from pump to them"? Feed manually generator water? H.Gens supposed just to be into water sources, and they auto feed. All my 3 gens it's at the river. And, hydro gens can accept only wires, not pipes from the pump, or any other sources. Also trying to connect wire to 2nd/3rd gen, and just "Insufficient Power", since 2nd/3rd hydrogens are just non functional. Connecting from Solar, and works just fine. Perhaps i need Advanced Generators? Relocated 3 times, logged out/in, demolished 20 times, just nothing. I see more people around have exact same issue too. Just 1 Hydro Gen works, rest nothing. And here's a pic of my gens which just the 1st works: https://ibb.co/KXwmxdR
This might sound crazy but what if you rotate them the same way as the working one? Maybe its some weird water flow thing. I misunderstood which thing you were talking about with the pipe thing i dont use this one, but thats my only idea at the moment. Maybe the specific spot for the good one is deep/flowy enough whatever it checks for, but the other 2 are not, or maybe setting the 1 in the direction it is requires the rest in that water source to be the same way, or even maybe each one needs a certain amount of water, or needs to be the only one "nearby".

tl;dr try rotating it, im curious if it works. Also try separating them by distance a bit and see.

I dunno man i understand now and it doesn't make sense but I feel like it's just some weird thing like that. Hopefully it works out

Thank you for the response and for trying to help, and sorry for keep asking. Tried everything. Can't get 2nd+3rd hydro gens to work at all. No matter the connections, water level, etc. Relocated again, now by the lake, nothing. Only 1st one works. And i'm still 3/6 at gen capacity. Must be a bug or something then. I will just use Biomass gens as 2nd/3rd, because friend of mine just now have exact same issue while trying to use second hydro gen. Hopefully devs will take a look into issue bc game is just great. :praisesun:

Hope they fix this bug soon, mine doesnt work at all from trying different positions. There's like a single video on youtube from the beta which shows it working in a still lake without running water so I don't think it really needs to be in a river, just in a water spot

water needs to be knee deep

Ah I'm sorry to hear that, I would definitely take your report along with those screenshots to their discord (link is in the 2nd pinned post) and give them that stuff maybe they will be able to solve it! Here's hoping. It definitely does sound bugged

It seems to work if you space them hella out, i had them next to each other and it would not function. But then i moved one like 3-4 foundations away and poof it worked.

This issue is already a part of my bugs list:

5. Water Generators sometimes not producing power even if placed in water. Seems some places are not considered water even if in water.

I found a way to fix it (at least on my end)

- Demolish Hydraulic Generators that does not work
- Build a new one and place it on different water spots
- If the new generator are working and have output value, you can safely relocate them anywhere you want

For some reason some spots on waters are not count as 'water'. So the only way to fix it is by keep making new one on different areas until it works

Slight necro?

It's kind of a dumb method but for me, I kept moving the Hydraulic Generator around on the water, until it "got power" and was able to place it on places where it doesn't, or at least where it looks like it isn't considered water and it still generates power after picking up power the first time, as indicated by the Max Output text(shows as 0 if it isn't working).

I'll post some picture links. After the above method, 1st one, some attached wires, 2nd one, no attached wires in a different spot of my plot. Hope it might help the frustrated or the people who don't wanna do Biomass generators.

That work for me

Took some time but i figured it out, get in the water while facing shore, jump and place it down. Kinda glitchy but i got all 6 generators working
