How does servers/multiplayer work in the game?

Hello. Looking at the game to play solo, but I don't fully understand the process. Will I match with another players on some random server? Is the server permanent for me, like in MMO? How many random players are there with me? Or is fully solo until I invite some friends?

You can choose which server to join, but all will have players. There is no true "solo" experience in this game other than just playing the game itself by yourself. The server you choose is permanent for that singular character create; if you choose to go to another server, you will have to start all over again with a new character.
