why am I in the same team but me and my friend can't see each other???

you're on different worlds most likely

Both need to check in the upper right corner of your screen (above the minimap) and make sure both numbers are the same. You can swap worlds by travelling to a teleport beacon and changing worlds to match eachother there

My friends and I went through this. Even though we were on the same server, we were on different worlds (i.e. shards) on the same server. I was on World 6 and my friends were on World 9 (as explained by Overeagerdragon above.

We all got onto the same world, then used B -> Z to all move our territories next to each other until we created a hive and have the whole hive building on one territory now.
