How to use a controller in Once Human!
Hey everyone, so you want to use a controller for Once Human huh?

Well you can (in the Steam version), however there were some steps I took to get it working.

Both the Playstation 5 DualSense controller and Xbox Elite Pro Controller 2 were tested.

1. Open steam and go to Steam/settings/Controller
2. I mainly use an Xbox controller on PC, so I installed the Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver which requires a PC restart
3. Once restarted, you should see the controller name at the top.
4. Enable Steam input for Xbox Controllers
5. PlayStation Controller Support - Enabled in Games w/o Support
6. Not tested on Nintendo Switch Pro controller but if I get enough requests, I'll test it.
7. Enable steam input for generic controllers, not sure if needed but I enabled it anyway.

That's all in this menu.

You will now need to close steam fully via task manager.

Now here is the kicker. You need to run Steam as Admin, which is not something I ever recommend as it gives Steam (or any other applications you do this to) more access to your PC than it needs. But if you are desperate to play Once Human with a controller, then you'll need to do this.

8. Go to the game and if your controller is detected by steam, you should see Controllers Not Supported. Click on View Controller Settings.

9. I have enabled the Steam Community config by NickBrock11 but there are others available. Click open "browse community layouts" and find the one that works best for you.

10. For the Playstation controller, I couldn't find a community one, so I just used the Keyboard (WASD ) and Mouse option.

Let me know how you get on!

Here is a supporting video I made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0umA51Uxrbk

Run a NetEase game as admin? No thanks.

If the servers got hacked they could get direct access to your PC. They need to fix this immediately. Steam input is enabled by default when configuring the steam API.

This is yet another game that didn't configure it correctly. Getting pretty ridiculous at this point.

We're not going to talk about the fact that it'd not solely be Netease games but applicable to any game, right? Not to mention that he said set steam to admin, not even the game itself (which is odd, because it should work perfectly fine without steam running in admin mode by the nature of how steam input works).

Also I'd assume that someone hacking their servers and actually wanting to harm users would be smart enough to realize that most probably don't run it with admin and use other exploits (or general methods) to achieve the same goal instead.

That aside: Yeah, whatever causes this needs to be fixed (either on the anti-cheat end the game uses which probably causes the issue, but then I also don't understand why admin would fix it... so, how did that happen? or by valve), same as adding the 2 registry entries to autorun for some reason (How did that even happen?) or having the bug that the game gets your GPU from 35° to a 85° hardlock if you go anywhere above 50 FPS (Again, how did that even happen?).

I'm fairly sure it's doing it because the API for steam overlay isn't running properly unless the game is ran as admin. The same issue Arena Breakout has. Presumably this is caused by the anticheat.

It's a very easy fix though. Would take someone with absolutely zero dev experience 5 minutes or less to google and fix. It's literally a checkbox.

Doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

Steam's jank controller support is a no go for me, hopefully they implement actual dev tuned support soon so I can play the game.

I promise you you're not important enough to warrant hackers attention.

Yeah man, hackers still credit/debit card info (and whatever else they can get their hands on) only from important people.
