Lights are...pointless?

So I finally managed to put some lights in my base. I've been wanting to unlock them since my base is so dark on the inside. The light they give? A small square on the ground. At most 1.5x1.5 meters. They basically don't provide any light at all. What the hell is the point of them then? Why can't I properly light up my base with them?

you need the long fluorescent lights not the small circular lights, those small ones dont do jack.

I dunno it seems to work pretty well for me. I have a moderately large multi tier base, I literally only have 1 bar light per level (save for the ground floor for aesthetic reasons). Maybe your video settings?

small colour lights are for deviants (they like certain colour), when you unlock electricity you can get good lamps

Yep, Read the description on your Deviants container, they'll tell you what they like.
Light, Music, Flower, Crop, Toy etc...
