Can I Change from PVE to PVP and vice versa mid season?

I haven't played the game yet (I am away from home) but I am really excited to! However I heard someone say that once you pick a server type you have to stick with it or reset your character. If this is the case I will need to really consider what gamemode to select because in my head I thought I could get the benefits of both by switching (so i can get echo shards and fight cool bosses). I haven't found any clarification anywhere so any help is much appreciated! Thanks :)

If you press P, you get put into PvP mode, even in PvE servers. It automatically turns off after a while. There is also PvP events

Wait if there are PVP events PVE doesn't that remove the purpose of the PVP servers? Or are the events different from each other. I assume you only get echo shards from PVP servers and I assume you can't change server type?

you cant swap servers without starting over so pick one however

pve has boss battles and some pvp random events ( not 100% on this but thats where the only pvp would be). not all the events are pvp based tho only like 1-2

pvp server has all the same random events however instead of the Boss battles there is large scale forced pvp zones where guilds / clans can fight over territory control and resource farms. pvp is still opt in for both people in the whole map unless you are in one of these forced pvp zones then its free pvp

Pve is better if a solo player but you can still go pvp if you are looking for opt in pvp / occasional random pvp but unless you join a warband the group battles are essentially a no go. if you choose pvp you lose out on the openworld boss battles and if you choose pve the only pvp you get is on those random events

I just did this recently 26th October 2024, to switch back, just teleport back to your home and it will reset
