It's more of a Partial Wipe then a complete Path of Exile Sunset.
To be brief, anything that defines your end game build is kept but everything that helps you get to max level is effectively sunset.
Imagine in Path of Exile, you get to bring all of your skill gems, can bring in some of your crafting (gambling) materials from last season, and can bring in a few pieces of your end game gear from last season that you spent 100x orbs rolling into a solid piece. Even then, you'd have blueprints to craft the pieces of gear early on without having to spend all that time RNGing for it in the current season.
That's kind of the best way to analogize the two games if that is possible.
This season league you're playing sorceress, but you found a solid scepter for a witch build, next season league you decide you wanna try infernal with that scepter from last season, feel free to bring it over along with a few other tidbits, the rest stay in your base until you're ready to take it over into maybe the 4th season league etc.
-weapon and armor blueprints
-weapon attachments
-weapon and armor mods
-any territory building blueprints you make and save
-certain currencies (Starchrom, Sproutlets, Stellar Plannula)
some gear and items are lost when a season ends:
-gold/silver bars (not the ore, smelt only what you need)
-tools built with certain perks (Solar Drill)
-season-specific resources (Staroids)
everything else is put the "Spacetime Backpack" which serves as a vault.
when you start a new season your character is reset to level 1 and you have the option to bring with you a limited amount of resources from previous seasons.
DON'T BRING:
-late game gear: you cant wear it until you're lvl 40 and it costs most of your resource points for a single item. complete waste.
-common resources: there's plenty of food, ore and wood to go around. again, limited resource carryover.
DO BRING:
-drills and chainsaws: 1 advanced chainsaw should be plenty for a whole season, and both make early resource gathering super fast.
-your BEST, HARDEST-TO-GET or SEASON EXCLUSIVE deviants: if you grinded for a perfect combat or utility deviation you can bring them into a new season for a head start
-starter seeds: hard-to-get seeds like morel and aloe or season exclusives like polar peppers. you only need one to get started
-AS NEEDED: food with buffs like the canned seafood for mining, the energy drink for double jumps.
IDK how PoE does it so i cant say anything on that. The point of the wipes? there's limited space around certain critical resources and plenty of people will plop down a territory the first day and then decide not to play anymore - which i get, survival crafting games aren't for everyone. without the wipes there wouldn't be anywhere for new players to set up, and people with multiple accounts and predatory clans would be able to physically bar other players from content with their territories forever, unless they get reported.
It's closer to Fallout 76:
You keep your crafting recipes and your important currency like Gold Bars and Stamps.
You lose your Caps, Junk/Scrap, level, and quest progression.
When you start, you can craft your bloodied build equipment (or whatever equipment you have unlocked) in the first 30 minutes or so. Just need to replace them every 10 or so levels.
You can upgrade your equipment crafting recipes over time.
Junk/Scrap is level based. You'll find everything you need, pretty easily, as long as you are in the areas appropriate for your level. No need to scrounge around the entire map for Ballistic Scraps.
You can make a Blueprint of your base. After the wipe, you can set it up pretty fast.
You have a choice of server based scenarios. When one finishes (the wipe), you can choose another.
It all moves much faster than Fallout 76, so you won't feel like the server is wiping too soon.
PoE throws your character into standard league (an eternal server if you will). You can still play it fully, but if you want to try the new Season League content, you start from scratch completely. It's effectively a full wipe since no one cares about standard league and will always be hopping on season leagues as that's where the new stuff always is.
There is also permanent progression so older players have some advantages on new servers.
This game suffers from being so diluted, its just another big clan zerg rush when it comes to pvp and immense grinding in pve.
Wait until the permanent servers come if you want to try it
amazing! this input is what i decided to reinstall the game again, i dno if il continue where i left off or start on a new server but im gonna proper try and build my base in eternaland that way i dont lose my base and learn how to store items that i will need in newer seasons, the grindmay be tedious but give it 2-4hours and you can grind out quiet alot of the map and quests, especially if playing with a squad youll get there faster so im excited again <3
