I did one scenario back on release. Came back deciding to check it out again since I really enjoyed it but remembered my base and everything I did was reset. Started a new scenario but only got a few hours of enjoyment before realizing there's no point. In a few weeks everything I do will be deleted. No point in building a cool base, taking the time to find gear, or completing quests so why play? Lost all motivation to continue.

I don't understand why they don't do permanent servers alongside seasonal ones.

There are permanent servers since March. However, you need to log in at least every 30 days, which might change to even longer inactivity in future.

You just had to do the scenario again, because it was a long time. But once you did, you can stay on the server of said scenario.
