for is this normal, for automatic guns yes but it shouldn't be compared to snipers and pistols
You're literally using the most ammo-spam weapon with the most ammo-spam build and wondering why your gun breaks under the work you're demanding of it.
In short, Yes, It's normal that your gun is breaking.
Get Artisan's hands as suggested by SA; And my own suggestion that I would submit, is get a medium or more ideally large garage and build a mobile base on the back, and stow a gear bench and a chest full of repair and ammo crafting materials on it so you can park it right near where you're farming and save yourself the TP and load screens.
But maybe this is a penalty for a build in which you mindlessly hold the left mouse button and move the sight left and right.
You are applying real world logic to a game mechanic. Truth is, any gun could shoot any number of times without breaking, but some game dev set a modifier for "degrade per shot = x%" to some value, probably without taking into account that most builds for this weapon would want to boost fire rate as high as possible.
