Rainwater Collection System Not Working

So I have a single Rain Water Collection unit which I had placed on a high platform, outside, in the open, un-obstructed. It was connected to a collection barrel.
When it started raining the Rain Water Collection unit wasn't recognising it was raining, instead thinking it was sunny, saying "Not Currently Raining".
I tried to move it somewhere else. I tried to disconnect the hose connecting it to the barrel. I even removed the whole thing and re-built it.
It. Won't. Work.

It's so frustrating as its a journey step to collect water and I can't do it!? Does anyone have a fix for this?

yes usless these collection systems also work with humidity here in the game it must rain at night and it is humid even in the desert and should provide a minimal amount of water even at night in reality

But it doesn't work. Fails to work with such reliable consistency it seems like a direct trolling of the player base.

As long as you connect the rain collector directly to a water reservoir, you cannot complete the journey. To complete the journey, you have to take the water out of the rain collector manually.

Simply place the rain collector in the open and come back another day. Take the water and the journey will be completed.
