Fishing lure

I dont notice any difference from throwing the fishing lure into the water. I catch the same kind of fish at the same rate. A useless item? Or am I just lucky to be fishing in spots where there is an abundance of fishes already?

It does matter, but mostly only during fish event. As there - not all spots give event fishes, only those that are shimmering with that weird rainbow colour. And you can catch different fishes in different area's, while all that is close to the ocean [or maybe just eastern ocean?] DOES give the same fish. You should look at lakes and such, or locations that don't connect with the ocean - if you want different fish.

This is correct. I also noticed more unique fish in the starter areas - Eastern Ocean. I have pulled a few eels and some of the larger fish using lures.
