Underwater building?
I saw a base that when moved the whole first floor was underwater. Got me wondering if we are “allowed” to build underwater.

I have no idea if you could interact with facilities or storage items once they were submerged, but I did see they had base defenses down there too that may or may not work.

I think its a neat effect for a base but no idea if it’s viable for use or even “allowed” for base defense.

Anyone know more?

I have made a pool by putting foundations below the water. You can put chairs down up to a certain depth. I do not know if it is bannable or not, but I doubt it. I have seen people building this type of thing on a PVP server too.

I might give it a try. I need to test if you can interact with anything in a base while diving underwater.

I’m sure someone has done it but I can’t find if base turrets will fire if they are completely submerged.

One of my first real builds was an oil rig style base. Only problem with it was I wasn't allowed to do purifications on it, which is exactly the reason I built it like that. It even had a pathway that mobs could walk down from the beach, but it still didn't work.

I saw something about placement of your area having something to do with the spawning during purification. The upshot being if your base area didn’t have any spawnable land then it didn’t matter what kind of base you built you still couldn’t purify

technically you can if you manage to bug it out like my friend, his whole first floor is underwater and 2nd floor is just a wall with vine wall and a strange door behind, so his base looks like just a platform with a single vine wall on it

This is basically exactly what I wanted to do. Can he still “use” chests/equipment/etc while diving?

I love using the water for basement chill, water-grove spots!

The thing is that when you put that blueprint down in the future, it has to be in a precise location where you have enough depth for it or the entire base can't be placed. Especially since I love to take out foundations to carve these underground/water basements out and then cover them up with ceilings on top so I can walk over it above. The game doesn't like this collision-wise since there are now empty spaces in your blueprint that make it hard to satisfy the legal placement of it.

Now if you're talking about closing off the water by putting foundations and walls underwater inside so it's completely dry, it's not possible (yet?). One thing I've done is put a bath on a submerged foundation surrounded by fishtanks underwater - you can actually use the bath and sit in it underwater while not losing any oxygen at all!

Thats amazing. I did some rough testing in the little water I had and was able to smelt underwater so I had my hopes up.

So sounds like I need to do some scouting around to find some suitable water thats deep enough and flat enough that I can practice some ideas.

Thank you all for the input. Screw a water filled basement, now I want a sea lab.

I would also be curious to see how growing crops underwater works I assume it’s the same as growing them outside and the game just ignores the water for purposes of rain and sunlight.

It's bannable in PVP because it prevented the faction vs faction battles to play out. People could put the Prism Deviations in such bases and the opposing faction can't do anything about it at all.

Not too sure about PVE though but I believe as long as the enemies can still attack your base during purification, it should be fine.

I don’t currently play on pvp and I can clearly see how this get you in trouble. I do worry about purification as I’m not trying to bug the game to get easy purifications.

That said the idea of having a somewhat “hidden” base if I ever did do pvp is something I would love to do so I guess we still have to be careful with it.

I do hope they continue to expand underwater stuff so i can hope for underwater legalization

As far as I am aware, it is only a bannable issue if you are doing it in such a way that processing, storage, or purification structures are unable to be damaged.

@BurlsoL: Does that mean you would have to have a top floor that is above water to contain whatever you are using for processing, storage, and purification?
It could still be cool to have a partially submerged base, if that is the case. It just almost defeats the purpose of it, except to potentially make it a bit more secure

So i’m guessing a base must be attackable by either land or air or both. But since enemy's can’t currently submerge or swim anything completely below the waters surface would be “protected” from mobs. And thats what the devs don’t like.

By that logic any “item” placed on a structure below water that did not then “stick out of the water” would also be in that protected state and would have the potential to be “bannable”

I get that is a bit extreme and on a non pvp server i doubt they would care. But if start putting facilities below the surface on a pvp server especially defensive or other “interact-able” things like purification then you could be in trouble

*edit Well the crocs can swim but I’m not sure if they could attack something below the surface.
