The dungeon itself does not have any unique loot beyond one deviation, meaning you ignore it and miss out on very little.
They learned and changed Way of Winter Zone of Haze to a Side quest rather than Main quest.
But the idea of forced grouping for story content isn't rare in MMO.
Sidequest or mainquest doesn't really matter. The game still gives me a navpoint and a route there "This, here, right here. You gotta do this!". If I stop tracking it it's just back next login. Heck, it already gave me task to see the NPC giving out the quest as soon as I logged in. I had no option to not take it. So while still optional they really want you to do this Task.
Suggested solutions would be:
1) An option to stop tracking the Task permanently.
2) An option to cancel the Task entirely.
3) The actual Task takes you to the entrance and ends there. Whether you enter or not is up to you.
4) Make Normal and Hard variants of these dungeons.
Take FFXIV for example, many of the 8 person full party or 24 person alliance content require more than one person to do wipe mechanic. And I'm not talking about the Hardcore version of those.
