Here in Steam, click Steam in your top left corner and go to Settings. In the left pane, click In Game and there somewhere in the middle there should be an option named In-Game FPS counter. Choose where you'd like to have it.

Dang it I didn't want to use steam overlay because it is such a lame it uses more resources than nvidia overlay. But if it is the only option then I guess I have no choice.

Rivatuner might be the most lightweight software to use. You can even set a cap with it if you like. Google and pick the "guru" site, this one is the official. After that you simply install and run it in the background.

I'd rather use steam overlay than installing a new software that I never heard about on my precious computer... but thanks anyway.

I use the most underrated and underappreciated tool which is Xbox Game bar.
Trust me, people say bad thing about it just because they heard someone said something bad about it, its very helpful small app and i love it.

Nvidia is working for me but both steam and Nvidia overlays are causing heavy fps drops for some ppl. I'd say leave it off for now until they figure out why.
