Startup Programs - Solved?
Greetings!

In this post we will discuss the two Startup "programs" installed by Once Human and how to disable them.

Firstly, it's worth noting that they are not programs. They are tracker ID's from a Data Analytics company the developers are using. I don't recall the name exactly, but I'm sure you can find it or another user will post it. Point being, they are *not* malware.

One is just a file with a numerical value assigned to it, this tracks how many times you've opened the app, and the other is an alpha-numeric value, this is (from what I know about app development) your ID tracker for the apps installation. This is different from the aforementioned tracker which tracks how many times you've opened the app. UUID trackers are largely used to track installations, but have a WIDE range of use cases, one of which is anti-cheat methods. I spent some time as a game moderator in One State, and we used UUIDs quite often to issue bans.

Basically, UUIDs are important because it provides the developer - or anti-cheat service provider - with a means to identify which user/account was in violation of a term.

Now, there are several discussions on here saying you can delete these entries, however, they will simply reappear when you launch the game again. If you don't want to just take my word for it, you can download Autoruns, let it load everything, and you should see the two entries appear at the top of the window. If you look to the right, you can see that there are no programs or other files associated with these entries. So, we know from that, that there are no malicious programs being executed based on this code.

I know from my experience as a Full Stack Web Developer that there would certainly be a file or other program associated with these entries if they were indeed malware. Such is not the case though, and by using the methods outlined in this post you will be able to reproduce these findings.

So, because the entries reappear upon launch, the best way to prevent these entries from running on your system is to simply open your task manager, go to the startup apps tab, right-click the entries and select 'Disable'.

They will still be there, but they shouldn't be running. You can check this in a few ways. The simplest being to just take a log of the systems operating conditions with the entries enabled and the game running, then follow the method(s) here to disable them, view the system stats again and correlate the results.

If you are still sus about it, your only other options are to either a) deal with it 😂 or b) run Autoruns, right-click the entries, select 'Delete' then uninstall the game. Yes, in that order. Otherwise the entries will still exist in the registry after you uninstall, at least from what I've read from some other users.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for the devs to address this directly to further resolve it. But, for now, this resolution should suffice to resolve the issue and (hopefully) your concerns.

Happy , uh, whatever you're doing.

These drove me mad for a day, thought I had a Trojan RAT, you can delete them in your HKEY registry using regedit.exe but they just reappear every time you launch this game, the two files just look so ugly and very suspicious in always appearing in startup apps, it's a bit naughty the way they've done this imho, so i'll be uninstalling this free game.
yeah we had 9000 posts about this and solved it 47 times

Disabled them in Startup. They don't run any more. Ten seconds work.

For anyone still coming to this post and wondering where the files are located in the registry to delete them, you can find them here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

They're the two entries beginning with AF_

Did you uninstall all your internet stuff and social media and threw your phone into the microwave to destroy it properly, too? Cos if you're wary of these programs here, which have been PROVEN to not be spyware or malware by people who took a really close look and are probably a lot more computer-savvy than all the posters on this thread combined, then the ♥♥♥♥ that goes on on the net (specifically social media) and the stuff that can be done with your PHONE (hint: the police can actually use your phone to locate you - well, your phone, so you if you always got it on you) will drive you insane.

It's pretty fair to not want a game to bloat up your startup programs - especially when they don't clean up after themselves. Idk why you're getting so worked up about that lol

My friends didn't want to test the game cause of this, so yes i hope the dev will resolve this. UP.

Problem: Isn't disabling them cheating? Therefore banable offence?
