Personally I prefer to go directly for the legendary because I know that I won't change it so I can freely max it without wasting ressources. And Even if at some point I change gear, it will still be hanging in my base, powerfull and ready to go if needed. I will probably not recraft it every blueprint level though, as a fully calibrated +10 is way too costly for that.
On top of it you take your starchrome and blueprints into the next season so every blueprint you "waste" on blue or purple gear just makes the game longer untill you reach the glory of a fully decked out toon with all that juicy 5 star legy blueprints.
