Rain collectors don't need to be connected to water storage to function as they have 4 slots of built in storage.
Well, mine work just fine so I don't know if it's a bug or not.
Additionally, if you have a pipe that is collecting from it, you'd need to disconnect that, as you need to collect directly from the raincatcher for the task.
my rain catchers work, near the end it shows the rain catcher pipes and even checked when it was raining to make sure it was.
