Much of what the developers have written on the subject is either intentionally or unintentionally misleading. The fact that the developers have posted blogs/FAQs about how seasons work at least three times over the past 6 months and have failed each time to provide an accurate reflection of their impact makes me believe the misrepresentation is intentional at this point.
People need to understand that the developers are presenting their ideas in the best possible light because they need players to get on board with their vision. This game is so heavily built around the seasonal concept and it's vital to them that the players be willing to accept it. Otherwise the game risks failing and all of their development effort will have been for nothing.
This is why parroting whatever spin the developers are posting is not helping to clarify reality for players. While incredibly disappointing, it is completely understandable that the developers are always going to paint their decisions in the best light possible, while at the same time omitting the details that don't. It's much less understandable when fellow players do it for them.
no hate, but i understand what im reading, maybe im crazy or something but the post seems fine.
Let's go over some examples then.
Starting with house blueprints, and the idea of using it in followup seasons as an example. What aren't the developers reminding players of in their seasonal messaging? Well, to use your territory blueprint you need both the materials AND access to the same memetic skills used to unlock various base components that are part of your design. You can't just will a biomass generator, refrigerator, and water purifier station into existence without first having the requisite memetic skills unlocked and access to the materials used in their construction. And there are no lower rank material versions of these items to fall back on - that feature is limited to walls, foundations, etc.
And if you're thinking you'll be able to use your materials from the previous season to help speed things up, then you're forgetting that their promise to transfer your possessions from the previous season comes with a huge caveat that most of the items transferred to Eternaland at the seasons end can not be taken out of Eternaland and back to the next season with you.
The developers also frequently stress how important wipes are because everyone needs to start each season on equal footing to promote fairness. But they also try to allay concerns about wipes by telling players they'll be able to transfer some of their items with them between seasons and give their new level 1 characters an advantage.
They're essentially describing what is known in MMOs as "twinking". And anyone who is familiar with twinking knows very well that a twinked character is *not* on a level playing field with everyone else. The contradiction is as ridiculous as it is blatant.
And then there is the nonsense padding, like the points about the friends list carrying over, as if that has anything to do with seasons or would need to be wiped. And preserving character pinch data between seasons - a feature that is already available in the character creator and also has nothing to do with seasons.
