Also, you need to give them full permissions to use your facilities, and be in a team when you do it to share rewards.
I haven't been able to get on in a few days, due to I'm not even sure what, so there may have been an update that voids what I'm about to say, in which case it can be ignored. That said...
"be in a team when you do it" is wrong. The necessity is that you be in the same **hive** not **team**. As long as you are in the same hive, and you haven't reached your weekly limit, you can collect it. To my knowledge, you can even show up at the end of it and not even fire a single shot and still claim the starchrom reward.
Players can't interact with others' filters, but the reward drops on the ground beside the filter, and isn't claimed from the filter itself. As far as putting stuff into the filter goes, the resources can be passed from one player to another, either via dropping or via trading, and the one that owns the used purifier can insert everyone's supplies into the used purifier.
Unfortunately, that is very much not the case. It's specific to the hive.
Edit:
Warband also doesn't benefit from this system.
