No one wants to play an MMO while looking over their shoulder.
Because PvP just isn't that popular, despite all the little Combat Wombats saying it is. There's always endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it "not being fair" because rubes who think they can survive solo get hammered into the ground by higher-level players. Little guilds (warbands or whatever) howl that the bigger guilds are crushing them and that guild sizes should be limited. Then there's the crowd that are outraged when they get raided offline and tearfully complain "that's not REAL PvP!"... The PvP player ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ never ends.
Honestly, I think this company should be applauded for avoiding the entire shambolic issue and the fallout it causes. If people aren't flagging themselves for PvP it's obvious they don't want "traditional" PvP. Oh, and the fortifications are needed when you have to defend your base while extracting Dust or something. It attracts mobs, apparently.
Read the Season description. It's intended, since states: "low, beginner-friendly difficulty" overall. I assume, they've decided to start user-friendly and then adding the difficulty gradually. We'll see soon enough.
...and quite clearly the vast majority of PvP players in this game don't want to use it. It should be their idea of PvP heaven!! You'd think PvP carnage would be EVERYWHERE for the entire 6 weeks, but demonstrably it isn't. I mean, what the hell DO they want? Seems like it's the good old ambushing of lower-level players, wiping out weaker guilds (or whatever they're called in specific games) and offline raiding. It's almost funny.
Yes, this is also a good system, which I liked about Eve Online many, many years ago. There are "safe" sectors in space (nowhere is guaranteed 100% safe, though) and you know full well that if you enter a lawless sector - to get resources, for example - you are potential prey, and a predator could come along at any time.
Other games have done a broadly similar thing over the years, featuring zones that contained really good stuff, higher XP and which gave more vanilla resources too. Venture in, and everyone knows what could happen.
Even that never really gained as much traction as it deserved because, fundamentally, a lot of PvP players don't really want to attack people who are geared up and fully expecting combat at any moment. The other side of that coin was that PvE players thought, "sod the otherwise tempting goodies in there. I can make do without them and just keep grinding".
Games that feature 100% PvP never seem to get thriving populations, either. Honestly, I reiterate, what the hell do PvP players want there days? 🙂
As for any PvP shooter, I am am terrible at it. My oldest would carry me and our whole team in any shooter game. But I enjoy the PvE shooter. That's why I am here.
It's an MMO and just like every other MMO PVP is Toggle, Event and some Areas only.
This is common in every MMO.
This game may have survival mechanics but at its core it's an MMO therefore full loot PVP is not an option due to the Live Service nature of MMOs.
ohwell, i don't PvP, i hate it and yes its a skill issue, i'm old i like to play games at my own speed, and i HATE getting killed by a no-lifer and so wasting my time and progress.
in case you have no idea what a NO-LIFER is, someone with no life and dedicates it to the game instead, a 24/7 kid as of sorts. one who plays so much he's done all the contents in a week.
