Outside stairs
I have looked online and asked multiple times in game......how in God's name do I place stairs outside if I was forced to place my house higher up than I wanted? For example I just want stairs that lead up to my front door and garage.

Side note: Under settings and mouse/display, "Vehicle" Camera is "Vehivle" and the graphics top setting is "Very high" but for some that should state as "High" it still shows "Very High." Does the "High" setting still lower the graphics despite the text not changing?

One of the modifier keys (I think it was holding alt or shift? Try around with any shown and move your mouse a bit) allows you to place them downards although it's still as weird to get them to align properly (not entirely sure if it allows to build them without a foundation below them tho).

He still needs to hold one of the modifier keys given that he wants to build them outside and below, they (no matter where you aim it) only attach on foundation level otherwise, but yes, very tedious and I don't even know if he can do it to the degree he plans on doing it.

I gave up. It's one of the few concessions I've made with the game. I tried for so long to get a pair of stairs to snap to a foundation block so that I can go from ground to porch and nothing worked. I hope they improve the building. Even trying to rotate objects either doesn't work or won't at all or won't rotate the item the way you think it should.

100% agreed, we're primarily the test run, their main audience will be on mobile in 2 months, they absolutely have to fix the building - I honestly don't even want to know how frustrating building will be there if it stays the way it is.
I used ceiling pieces to make porches and then could add the stairs from the porches down to the ground.

^^ ceiling pieces will work for the stairs. Foundations won't work for what ever reason based off the rules they use I would guess.... The stairs will also connect if you have them going into a wall instead of a foundation

So what OP wants IS a stair that links the ground to his house floor foundation, right. ? If so, the easiest way to place them, IS to be in the doorway looking outward to the ground. It's a little finnicky, but you will eventually have the right hologram to place your stairs the way you want.

Using ceiling pieces as a porch was the best for me. I just wish I could use walls to cover up below the ceiling pieces.

I was able to use the wall angles- inverted to connect and cover a majority of the empty space between the foundation area up to the "porch" floor. I had to mess with it a bit to get it to work but I really like the look of my porch. the ceiling is ceiling arches coming off the front wall and I used 4 going around posts that I put at the front of the porch and they create a nice oval swirl design, then I surrounded the tops of the arch ceiling with the white post fencing, then to seal it I put a square ceiling piece on top of the fence- rim I made. It makes a tiny space that I then put about 5 orange lights in an X pattern which caused a nice white glow coming out of the fencing and with string lights it creates a really nice ambiance. I call it The Tiny Hippy Home :3
