pve vs pvp

so I started on a PvE server just to get my bearings/understand the game. i'm thinking of just starting over on a PvP server because it's honestly kind of boring on PvE (no danger).

are you and your base always flagged for PvP? and what exactly is PvP like in this game (if you had to describe it compared to another game, idk)?

maybe im playing on the wrong server or something but the PVP seems kinda non existent right now, I've had one PVP experience so far with one of those moving truck scramble things and it was kind of a ♥♥♥♥ show, besides that my experience has been pure PVE, I don't think anyone is flagging for PVP at all, I don't really understand how the PVP works tbh, you have to enter chaos mode by pressing P, the game loading screen tips indicate you can attack anyone while you're in that mode, but I've seen people in the forums say both people have to have chaos mode enabled for actual PVP, hopefully someone can provide you with some better answers but i figured I'd throw in my two cents

In a PVP server you can turn this mode ON/OFF. Not always on. There are some pvp world events as well (i dunno if warband or hive wars too). Only when you activate the purification thing you also get attacked by other players and your base is flagged on the map

oh.. so wait what's the difference between PvE and PvP if you can toggle PvP off on a PvP server?

You can make PVP in server PVE but you won't lose loot. At least in the truck convoy it's like that in PVE.

so the difference in a PvP server is that when you die, you lose your loot (regardless if it's from a NPC or player)?
