This is not reflected in player population on the server, however.
The changing seasons guarantees a fresh story and atmosphere pretty much every month unlike in Fallout where it gets stale after you finish all of the quests.
The combat is pretty much the same with this game having a slight edge due to the weakspots actually being important and the Bosses having weaknesses and strengths.
The Base Building aspect is superior in this game, minus the roof building part its such a pain to try and put them up but the freedom to build whatever AND wherever you want is fun.
The social aspect of this game absolutely trounces Fallout 76, having a basic chat function is all there is to say.
Monetization this game takes the edge, everything is basically Free, there are no draconian inventory weight limits and currency limits. In F76 though you can earn premiun currency just by playing so I'll give them that.
The only thing that is an actual hindrance for this game to truly shine is the technical problems. A full week or month of polish and this game might actually be a contender for GOTY.
The gunplay in FO76 is better. The story and voice acting (while still weak) is better in FO76, though you have less reason to encounter it as the main story and questing is pointless to do in FO76, in Once Human it's more important to do quests.
The base building is better in Once Human, both games it's pretty weak compared to other survival games though.
The world is better in FO76, Once Human is filled with copy and pasted buildings and assets all over. You'll have deja vu before leaving the first zone.
FO76 you'll see other players more often since everyone's hopping to events. Once Human people mostly ignore the events except the one big event which can have up to 40 people though I've yet to see more than 24 there.
FO76 has a better interface, less menus and nonsense to go through. Better storage management.
Once Human was clearly designed with mobile gaming in mind. Click to accept rewards in 100 different menus to feel like you're achieving something! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2luhwy3KAE0
Both have limits on what you can sell to NPCs, Fallouts resets daily while Once Human is weekly but with larger amounts of what you can sell.
Overall I think both games are lackluster.
So maybe I should just hold off a while and check back in a few weeks?
What else could I play? I am not a huge PvP fan
If you want my personal opinion:
I do like the general design of Once Human, but overall it's more or less of the same as most other survival games - what it absolutely got speaking for it is that it's free 2 play and that there are a lot of people on the same server in comparison.
What doesn't really speak for it (currently at least) is the bugs that require a 50fps lock (high temp bug/crashing) as well as wipes every 6 weeks (devs already mentioned that they're aware of some people not wanting it but they don't know yet if they will (or at least when they will) add persistent servers).
Can we stop that stuff now and write down actual reasons why you'd think so? Preferably using the nowadays version of FO76 in comparison to make actual points as to where it is so people that wonder know.
That being said, what breaks up the monotony is the overall amount of exploration and the difference is the way each location is designed and the side content available. The content IS gated as that is how the game works. Evey week a new part of the story unfolds so you can. Only progess so far each week.... for now. And of course you will have to deal with wipes.... for now. Assuming they don't change that part.
Personally, I'm having a blast and I will be continuing to put my time here.
There's a lot of survival games on the market. Valheim, Don't Starve, Grounded, Sons of the Forest are some of the ones that don't specifically focus on PvP.
ARK, Conan Exiles and Rust have PvE servers but really are designed around fighting other people.
To go in the complete opposite direction there's Palia, no combat at all, very very light survival elements like making food and smacking trees. It is also free.
And there's always Minecraft, you can make that game as hardcore or as casual as you want by just finding the right modpack. Hell you can even play Pokémon in it.
Soulmask, Bellwright and Enshrouded look interesting but I haven't picked them up yet and can't rightfully suggest them when I am ignorant to them. I should probably be playing one of those instead of Once Human, but I'm in too deep, can't stop now!
