Identity Crisis
I feel like the game has an identity crisis. It wants to be a survival base building game but also a traditional MMORPG, and a looter shooter but also a season mobile style ARPG. I like the game but I do feel like it needs to choose an identity because currently its controdicting itself. The survival and base building is rendered moot with the season style and the traditional story driven MMORPG element doesn't work well with looter shooters and temporary servers

Why does it need to choose ?
140k on steam online
there is epic + neteas too
and it will launch on mobile (which prolly at least doubles the playerbase) ...

so it 100% works how it is XD

The "season" thing would work fine if you could migrate servers.

Then everybody would migrate to the servers that have the least waiting for things to unlock and the devs will learn their lesson.

Instead they are trying to teach us what to want. We will see how that ends.

Because its only being out 1 month. The test is September with Season 2. Or more accurately Season 3. We have not yet experienced the result of this strategy yet

but "never change a running system" as long as it does work why should they throw everything away and focus on 1 thing ?

Add the other 2 launchers and ...

Lowballing, the other 2 only contribute a total of 60% of the Steam server.

That would be 84K added to the 140K. A CC total of 224K. If players played a total of 6 hours per day. Your possible daily total would be 896K for the day.

It is succeeding as it is and it seems some community members do not like this success.

Point is we don't know if it works until Season 2 or 3. If less people play Season 2.

Saying its working now is irrelevant because we are not having the full experience we have yet to experience a server wipe nor experienced the difference Season 2 will offer. Hell I don't even know how many are aware of the resets

I am curious if you are aware the resets have changed to favor more to be carried over to next season.

More and more are looking to the reset as being positive due to the way the devs have listened.

And as you said, It has been only 1 month. And in just a month more and more people are looking at the game in a more positive light due to the developers are able to reason with the community.

Hey guys did you hear there's going to be a reset? There's going to be a reset! You're going to lose your loot!

Give me a break. Fake issue.

Every time you have to start a new character you reset. I can do it every day.

Proof is in the pudding. What devs say and what players say is irrelevant. I want it to be successful but remain dubious that once the novelty wears people may gravitate back to games that focus on the element they prefer. We'll see. Unfortunately one of the selling elements for me was building a settlement in a shared world and that will be deleted. Yes you can blueprint but people usually build around the environment so whenever its a new environment that build probably won't fit

But did you think about that this is what happens to every game ? Palworld had over 1Mil useres online at the same time, look at it now ... its the normal life of a game ... hell id even say its better to offer multible genres in one so you have a way bigger audience ^^

ppl. come and ppl. go, that will always be the case as long as your not pretty much the only relevant game in that genre like shooters, there is CS, Valo & may xDefiant, every genre has the big titels and all other games coming, wont touch this big ones on a long term if they dont do anything different, OH for once is something totaly different with potential, you cann see that with the playerbase and how everybody want to play it even if they are happy or unhappy

The difference with Palworld is it doesn't really deviate from the genre. Its a textbook online open world survival base building crafting game. Yes, it incorporates creature collecting but you know what to expect from day 1. Its also not time sensitive. You can quit, return a month later and continue where you left off. Nothing lost, nothing missed,

Have you noticed that each server has like fifteen parallel worlds so everybody can build in the same five locations? Even with very small populations it still seems like the opposite of "shared"

Its definitely not what I expected just by the trailer and information in the description.

Palworld was just an exsample ...
every online game/mmo. has the problem that if you dont play, you will fall behind or miss out on stuff, even if its not bcs. of the wipes in other games, its events, raids and all that stuff ... if someone cant put the time into a mmo to keep up specialy a game with wipes (which was known before launch) then the game may is not for that person ... and if i understood todays OH-Discordpost right, you even can play old Story on new Seasons(?) so everything you would miss is the Seasonrewards, if you see it as an typical mmo, you also would miss events etc. there.

The moment i heard about OH and gatherd informations i knew its an Seasonal game with wipes, if wipes was a off for me or i have big fomo or what ever, i wouldnt even have started, or just played season1 story once and done, now i have 3 max lvl chars on different servers
