no access to rift anchor

What did I do wrong here? The rift anchor just says "No access to rift anchor"

Depends, either you're lagging or it's part of a quest. Happened to me. I just go back later when the lag spike is over, IF you're lagging.

It seems like you cannot unlock a rift anchor unless you got the anchor "before" it, like there's an A->B progression chain in an openworld for some reason.

Tricked me too. Basically you need to explore and unlock map locations by region area/zone at a time. I also think you have to win against rift boss of that area before next set of anchors in next region/zone are available. You can find loot, crates etc but anchors remain stubbornly locked until you clear the preceding region/zone. You don't need to unlock all anchors for each region just 5. Roll your cursor over the location and it gives hint what region/zone that location belongs .
