That's how it works using energy links as currency, yes, but the functionality between item trade and energy trade are different.
I have no reason to sell my stuff for energy I have plenty of already if I can't use that energy to buy like acid or rubber or something useful.
Using resources as currency would solve this problem.
So you're suggesting to sell items in a stack that is priced appropriate for the amount of item currency a person is likely to be walking around with in their pocket. I like it.
This is a bit like putting out a vendor that BUYS things which you can't do with energy but you can with source.
