Not the best answer but if you have someone you can trust let them log on for you while you are gone.
it's actually a good thing to avoid afkers to hold the best spots. If anything in your base get destroyed, usually, all the ressources will be sent to the vault. Don't worry too much for your base, it's likely to be fine after your holidays ;)
This timer is for those people who made a base, and then decided to quit the server. 1 week is alot of time for a base to sit in an area that is needed especially pollution and oil.
If you arent playing more than once a week why would this be a big deal to you anyway? Just to complain?
At least, the base is not really lost, you just need to place it back so no one is at loss.
People just want to be catered to so they can lock down the prime real estate in game and screw other players out of resources. If real life takes priority, it takes priority. It's called being an adult. Stop trying to inconvenience others because you feel entitled to have the world revolve around you.
There is a small niche of adult players who have "game" night and spend a couple hours playing and log out. This game is not for them. They can enjoy it as much as they want, and maybe the devs will make a longer season for a server. For now as you said, they havent lost anything and i doubt they are in a polluted oil spot. No way with their commitment to the game.
I work the same kinds of hours pal and also lead a hive and warband on TWO servers.
The progression stuff is really balanced and forgiving. Even for adults who have other priorities. Some people just suffer from 'main character syndrome' and would be happier in a single player title with couch co-op. Drives me nuts.
But we are the same. Most of us work during the week. But got a solid group of people all willing to help and play together. Having a solid server with alot of like minded people would be pretty nice.
I am a big path of exile fan, so seasons do not bother me. Even play some d4 now that its gotten "better", though poe2 will be my jam when it releases.
Steam just has a large toxic community that destroys games by making demands of devs that essentially make the game worthless. They review bomb, write negative reviews for no reason at times as well.
Not going to let these people ruin this amazing game.
