reinstalled Steam, moved game file, verified files (twice). and even deleted files so it would re-download them, which it did, and verified again, and still shows the same error dialog on launch.

I run on Linux. Switched to Proton with GE9-14. After a few restart the game started working. Strange.

Had same issue. Occurs with Proton 7.0-6 and 6.8.
I had to turn OFF forced compatibility on the game to access.
Will try GE 9-14 later

(Running on steam deck)

I was also able to run this game by turning off forced compatibility or by using proton experimental. However, the game is now a stutter-fest no matter what in game settings I use when it wasn't before with proton 7.0-6.

The same
Proton GE 7.50 - not work anymore
Proton GE 9.14 - lags

Same issue as well running Ubuntu with proton version 7.0-6
Will try other Proton versions

Arch Linux(Garuda) - with GE-Proton 7-55(and various other versions) the game now gives that WinLicense error upon failing to launch, on GE-Proton 9-14 the game launches, we can even login to Eternaland, but when trying to join any servers the game just closes after loading for a bit with no error message.

As WinLicense seems to some sort of "software protection" suite we're currently assuming it is yet again some sort of cheat detection finding Proton to be unsuitable for its parameters.

For me it works on any version of proton 9, but it's a slide show.

No other proton version worked for me except 7.0-6 (which they now have broken compatibility!!)
All other versions have a weird bug in my steam install where the game will only run in the background, so that makes playing anything impossible!!

Guess it's game over for me now

Yeah, after over a hundred hours in, nada. 9+ is lag town. *le sigh* I hope they fix it, or revert whatever they broke
Teliara Sep 24, 2024 @ 12:53pm
It normally takes me 3 or 4 goes to start the game.

I installed Proton 9-14. Verified that is is running much smoother there and actually launches. Give it a shot! :)

Does it run smoothly in blackfell/high density areas? It wasn't for me.
