AppsFlyer (Game Modifies Registry with Scummy Mobile Marketing BS)
The game includes AppsFlyer, which is a mobile marketing and analytics tools. The first time you run the game, it adds 2 entries to your startup folder that look super sus, and adds these to the registry. For some reason, it seems that all they are tracking is the times the game have launched (AF_counter_2139460) and a uuid of your device (AF_uuid_2139460).

None of this is necessarily an issue, but when there are 1000+ players of your game freaking out about this on the internet, thinking it's malware or some virus, and don't even realize it's come from Once Human, I think it's the responsibility of the devs to explain what exactly this is, and why it's included.

Realistically, you should also consider removing this entirely, because it's causing many people to just uninstall the game, as they can't trust you to not do something stupid and unnecessary on our computers, like the 1000 other forms of anti-cheat and rootkit bs, which is completely understandable.

Also, how many time you've launched the game is a completely useless metric and doesn't make any sense to keep track of.

Another social media parrot that's late to the show.

Didn't know this, if only 100 people already posted about it.

If this is a problem, how come you're still playing the game? I'm just wondering.

Let's take the time to read this post.
"None of this is necessarily an issue"
But I'm constantly seeing posts all over reddit about people thinking this is malware, and not even knowing it's related to Once Human. You're all trolls.

Good reading comprehension skills.

Social Media parrot? I noticed this myself, when I saw the entries added to my startup list.
Maybe that's why I'm late? Regardless, this is a useless and wildly unhelpful comment.

The search function is your friend. This has been known for a long time now. Day 1 had people overreacting to the TOS, to malware, to pay to win, it all has toned down once people realized they were wrong. Some people didn't even know what a registry entry could even do and thought it was a way to spy on your files.

IMO, I don't think devs need to explain what AppsFlyer is. It's like asking Product Team to explain what Jira is to their users. But yeah, AF is just an attribution/analytics tool, I've used it myself in my last 2 previous companies that worked at.

Tracking how many time a player logged into the game is actually super useful for the devs. Usually, it's not only how many times but also the actual time you logged into the game and the playtime for each session.

These metrics can be used to optimized the time to do maintenance for example, or to introduce game events etc. For the specific case of knowing how many times a user logged into the game, this is to establish the player's retention rate so of course it's not a pointless metric.
