Best Deviations
So I'm fairly new to the game and loving it so far. Just reached the Iron River area. I was looking for more info about the various Deviations I can find and equip, but I've found surprisingly little info so far. I know the game came out recently, but I'm surprised not to see any tier-lists on YouTube or anything like that.

As for combat Deviations, I only have a few. Recently started using the samurai and it's a very fun playstyle. But for pure damage, I end up comparing them all to the Butterfly we start with and they all seem to fall short. Is the starter Deviation just really powerful?

I wish I could remember to use them. 2 dozen hours in, and I still haven't used it.

The other deviation you get near the start, the blistering gel (yellow slime) is also incredibly useful for combat. It's a free health replenisher and sanity reducer

Overall for me , The best is the hound because of the Taunt he does and the 25+ % dmg boost so basically he taunt everybody until he leave + you get more dmg. The downside is that he can only hit ground mob.
To get it , just farm Shadow hound boss.

For heal/PvP is the gel , the slime , kinda boring for PvE but can save ass if you get always hit. Same for PvP, can save ass so make more than 1 build with the save option.

For the beginning until Hound, butterfly because he can hit everyone as he fly and increase the dmg on the one he attacK so for the start, he's the best.

Also some cool deviant who is good for some build.

The ice jellyfish (obtain for the cargo PVP event , get at least 200+ scramble) for ice build.
Aoe Damage + increase ice dmg you deal.

The Mr Wish, fun deviant for bulls eye build but very rare drop on event in sigma don't remember which one.

Salamander who is basicaly a flamethrower, good with fire build.

And there's more but late game deviant.

But still Hound is pretty much the one you'll go for until there's a better deviant that can taunt + dmg boost + more

Butterfly is the best choice tbh. Especially if you can get it with more skill rating and with useful traits. On hard difficulty, it can save you a lot of time.
Mini Wonder is good againts mobs with guns, but that's it.
By-the-Wind is not for combat, but good for exploration and can save you some time.

P.S. Mr. Wish is also good, but it's hard to get

I'm level 50 so should know this but .Does the deviation master cradle override work when I chuck down the festering gel ?

I am very fond of the polar jelly - I love stationary defenses that don't require excessive resources, just cooldowns (think Axton's turret skill from Borderlands 2), and the polar jelly sort of gets you there, by basically being a long-range precisely targetable grenade that explodes every few seconds, while also drawing enemies toward the center.

The one I am most excited to get, though I haven't found one yet, is the Grumpy Bulb - apparently it has an attack that can make enemies attack each other. That sounds right up my alley, as I love to be able to have turrets/mines/traps/whatever take out the enemy while I watch the chaos unfolding without firing a shot.

Yeah I use to use the gel with the mastery to heal my self and do a little more damage, tho I stopped using it after I got a 3/3 hound and after they made a change to the healing.

Tho now rocking a 4/4 hound. :P

I like to use the samurai for my heavy attack spam melee build, which I use to clear most settlements. Being able to teleport around and heal on kill is quite meaningful, and it's also useful during the mist event.

My biggest concern with deviations is that they disappear too quickly, even when I have a nice one with 150 energy.

Same, I run with a Polar Jelly. Its AoE is fairly small, but anything caught within the AoE gets absolutely wrecked and you can fire the jelly a good distance away to drop the AoE there.
