EDIT: But there is a cash shop.
edit: i know this is not "how to start" but it is what you will look back to in maybe some months and tell yourself "if i had only known"
This all carries over to next season
- Make sure you pick up and loot everything (Acid is one of the materials you'll be using a lot, end game wise)
- Build your base somewhere you want to have some passive acid and fuel pumping through your pumps (so start searching for areas where your bagpack shows some stardust pollution % and seeing the black shiny oil on the ground, usually near refineries). Of course this is after you find the place, it's best to build your base asap to start making stuff.
- Get a friend code to use their legendary weapons for now, you can't upgrade them.
- When using the wish arcade machine, please buy your blueprints and not lose your sanity to the gacha. Each legendary weapon blueprint cost 8k starchroms, you can also buy the blueprints for legendary armors. You don't need to get the full set tbh, just 2 for the passives to activate. And each set piece is 3k (not counting the ones that aren't in a set, those are 8k)
- Find yourself some digbys and have a decent amount to farm you ores to make your ammo and other stuff around your home. If you're lucky your digby would bring ya home some silver ores. Mine does daily.
- Go finishing to get some electric eels so you can have more electricity output for your generators (because we only are given a set maxed amount, even with specialization)
- You can revisit an already cleared area to farm the gear crates and the elites every 3hrs(?)
- For the love of God and all holy, please upgrade your gears often when you get a chance. When I mean upgrade, I mean make it to another tier. Your gear is really important to surviving the higher levels areas, especially surviving higher level stardust polluted places. This also helps you not get one-shotted by enemies(you will when you get to the lvl40+ places and you're still using Tier 1-2...).
- Do stuff that are weeklies if can. That means maxing out selling stuff to npcs (sell those silver and gold ingots), and doing your weekly territory purification for starchroms(please build turrets defending the left and right flank of your home and you go ham in the front lines). Go to the cash shop "EXTRA" tab and buy the weekly Mitsuko mark chest for 1 Energy Link.
-Do refinaries if you can so you can grab some good loot from there. Don't forget to bring your own materials to build a defense around the place.
- Buff foods help. Especially ones that help you jump(the soda drink and frog legs can be taken the same time for higher jumps and double jumps) and the living armor buff. So if you can make a mini farm, that'll be great. There are several buffs that are really useful for farming.
- Join a warband because hopefully they would share resources. It's best to focus your memetics on the things you want. My fiancee does the ores and smelting and I do the agriculture and cooking, including the passive acid farming.
- Do some of the world events. Cargo Scramble btw is the pvp one. You gotta keep that jellyfish on your head as long as possible so you can get the sprouts. Which you can trade in any of the settlements with the npc with the jellyfish on her head. She has Legendary mods. :)
- Also keep a good amount of Adrenaline on your person, in case you get almost killed. This will save ya. Trust. Also Quick activators.
I think that's all for now. Good luck. :D
If you plan on wearing/using dropped gear while your upgrading/collecting gear blueprints, wait till it breaks and dissemble it for resources and calibration blueprints.
Shoot some zombies, follow the story, and do some side quests. Basically, enjoy the game.
Do not rush to the end. The enjoyment is in the early stages.
