How close do you have to be to a polluted zone to make polluted water?

basically 1 pollution (number on your backpack) is enough for polluted water and the stardust powergenerator to work.

As long as your backpack has a number of 1 or above you are in a polluted zone. Hardest part is the no building near stronghold restrictions

I went to one of those black forest areas on the NE shore. Nobody else built there haha.

If you see the numbers on your cradle, you can pump. I would use 100% or better area.

The top part of the map. Top right has a polluted area down the cliff facing the ocean. You can build there.

No, you can't miss it though, it's dark brown around the sea and you can see the black ground and shriveled trees all over.

As long as there's a % on your cradle. Even at a low 1%, you can place your pump there.
