Once Human

Once Human

Lore is kinda hard to get into
I downloaded it earlier today, played for a few hours, made a base, but I think its just too weird lol. You have to do the "netherworld space" worldbuilding a certain way or else it sounds stupid

Random objects like balloons and radio towers infuse into these once human creatures that are still somehow able to breathe and live on earth even though their head is a literal suitcase, or ceiling lights. These actual paper butterflies are flying around and killing solid objects..

Is this game psychedelic based like The Evil Within? Because that would actually make a ton more sense than this midling sci-fi stuff

If someone has made it far enough to where they can make sense of the story, please explain lol

There is a reason why the term "Science Fantasy" exists. Don't be so literal.

I honestly think that the story is pretty simple. Here is a simple summary of the early events (I can't garantee that there won't be any spoiler):

You are a meta-human (Idk what that exactly means in-game terms or whatever- I personaly do not care a whole lot about small details- but you can basically almost understand it as sort of a human that was scientifically modified to have powers).

At the start of the game, you wake up from a test tube where you were kept by the Roseta Corporation (Big bad guys of the game). They are basically a tech company that does research on supernatural stuff and that started to take over things after the appearance of stardust energy (see it as mana or a weird energy that somehow sapped into the world at some point and started to modify things and people in weird ways; presumambly it has eldrich origins which is why every that is affected by it is so weird looking). Basically, kind of like an SCP foundation but with less humanitary ambitions.

When you character wakes up and then gets out of the room where they were kept, they encounter a bird like being called V. You later learn of his origin, but the short version of it is that he was once human and got modified at some points by the stardust which turned him into what he now is (Seemingly, it also caused him to suffer some memory loss). Eitherway, he helps you escape the place and links you up with Mitsuko which is a kind of like a half-human entity that has great agency over the stardust (Her origins are explained at end game).

Anyways, you escape the facility, Mitsuko takes you to her sanctuary which is kind of like a private dimension that she created (It is later explained why she did that but the gist of it is that she is running someone). You do some tutorial stuff and then you are let outside of Mitsuko's sanctuary (The part where you are dropped from the sky). From there on, you do more tutorial stuff until you meet Mary, who supposedly is another Mayfly (What you also are; essentially, the simple version is that a MayFly is a being that is able to use and manipulate deviations which are the entities that were affected by the stardust).

There, the story is pretty simple, you go around the island helping settlements and stuffs, to eliminate the threat that deviants are to normal humans. To do that, you will go to monoliths which are essentially massive 'prisons' (explained at the end of the game), where powerful deviations are kept. Normally, those were supposed to have been deactivated cause you know, "threat to humanity and all", but alas here we are (You will learn why this is happening at end game).

Along the way, interesting things happen but I don't wanna spoil much more than that because even as someone who spent most of my time skipping dialogues, important moments within the story, still felt interesting and meaningful, especially at the end where the real scope of the situation is just laid out, plain and clear.

Sorry for any mistake in grammar or spelling that I may have made, I wanna provide information since I think that the story is kinda interesting but I also don't want to spend ages writting this. Additionally, I may have made some errors since I didn't read everything and only focused on the essential stuff for my experience.

The story doesn't matter. It's never going to make sense/be great

This was a major negative for me, it's just slapped together into some bizarre freakshow of a story that really means nothing and is as pointless as the game-play. Another resource gathering crafting nonsense game that's really just created to sell in-game cosmetics and high-tier gear. Some people love this stuff, I've just seen it so many times it's nauseating.

LOL this game has lore? :steamfacepalm:

In summary, ♥♥♥♥ you, Elder Gods

Long answer (from babby lore given to the dumb stupid idiot noobs so no plot twists (if there are any)): Reality's split between the Yes Physics Zone and the No Physics Zone.
Bootleg SCP Foundation pokes their nose into the No Physics Zone for Cthulu Crack.
Cthulu Crack is bad and makes you part of No Physics Gang.
Bootleg SCP Foundation sticks their nose into the No Physics Zone enough that now everything gets Cthulu Crack and everyone's either No Physics Gang or about to get their ♥♥♥♥ kicked in.
The briefcase faces and Temu Sirenhead are members of the No Physics Gang, so they don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about bodily anatomy they're just here to snort lines, kill people and ♥♥♥♥ hoes.

It's basically Stranger Things but Eleven has a glock

Lores actually really easy to understand, and we dont even have to learn about scranton reality anchors or how to measure Humes. If something is manifesting in this world from another dimension why the hell would you assume it breathes oxygen and not the anomalous cthulu crack that subfuses the world around their being?

Where not even measuring Akiva Fields, Memetics or anti-memetics, Aspect radiation, bureaucratohazards or semiohazards, no Cognitive resistance scores, no infohazards or cogniohazards, no narrativistics, no Pattern Screamers( yet).

I found it very generic. We've all the seen the post-apocalyptic thing, a million times. I didn't find it compelling and that's easy to tell right out of the gate.

I really like the cthulhu stuff, the bus crabs and other monster designs, but the actual story missions and mitsuko's whole deal is a bit too anime tbh. Wish they'd learn more into hard horror.

Game lore in ANY game is something I don't even bother looking at. It's not relevant to me in any practical way or the enjoyment I get playing a game, so I just ignore it all.
BD Jul 17, 2024 @ 12:32am
I like it and it's easy to get for me.

Also the lore never said that u are alive or dead. It maybe not even the real world and you are still in the pod or something even worse... :steamsad:

I haven't seen this setting a million times.
The only only game that is kind of similar is like The Secret World.
