Once Human

Once Human

is there actually a security risk?
ive been hearing this game has an anticheat or something thats very invasive and can lead to players getting viruses and whatnot if the devs ever got hacked. similar to when players got infected because they hacked genshin impact and had access to players pc's.

is this true? i know nothing about this type of stuff and tbh most of you who reply prob dont either but im still interested in hearing what people have to say about these accusations

There's been multiple sketchy discussions regarding a few things, one of them being the Privacy Policy aka EULA and how much data they collect, however it seems that this was just an over generalization for all localities and didn't pertain to only the localization that a person actually resides in. In a way, they were just too transparent about their policies and most of it doesn't apply to people living outside of China or other looser laws regarding data collection.

The second sketch thing was background applications appearing in system start up that had strange names with numbers. It was discovered these are not actually applications running in the background, but legitimate registry additions that keep count of how many times you launch the game. This is not abnormal as many other games do this as part of their data collection, however, it seems to have been only misplaced in that it appears as a start up program unlike the other games that do this, and I expect they will patch that out and move them to more suitable locations in the future to calm the masses by not having it get added to the start up tabs.

They released an FAQ that goes over all of this and it seems everything so far has been explainable and legitimate. At the moment, I see no abnormal reason to be concerned.

We've learned over and over again that 'The Slippery Slope' fallacy isn't actually a fallacy. If you're alive right now, you understand that overreach is every growing and, people will attempt to exploit each other as much as they can, further and further, without any notion of respect. Even when it pertains to laws, they just have them rewritten or use loopholes.
In this case, the loophole is that you agree to it.

You aren't close enough to these companies or rich enough to win recompense. Why would you ever take the risk, FOMO? Lose it all for FOMO. It's the lube on the slope.
