This is nothing new, you are on the internet for crying out loud.
Where did you find this info?
Which other games in the West grab 'government-issued ID' information?
In the UK you are required to provide your ID on PSN for age verification purposes.
Why even require some of this stuff? Can the resident experts detail this?
Seems like we have many examples of Mizaru, Kikazaru and Iwazaru out there, who either ignore or are ignorant of so many personal data breaches or abuse of personal data. Ignorant of the harm it causes, until you suffer the pain.
If some of you want to give out your personal information willy-nilly to every company out there, then good for you. Just be willing to pay the painful price for such a laid-back attitude when things go south..
But because of the documented history and evidence of abuse of personal data, the rest of us would rather not risk it if the information is not essential to the use and function of the game.
And I have never handed over details of my 'government-issued ID' to use a MMO before. So why the essential need now?
This is pretty obvious when a Chinese game comes out and the only way to get an account is by purchasing off a Dodgy site because it's linked to people's ID's, Korea games are less demanding and only ask for a Korean mobile number etc (whether or not the numbers are linked to ID I have no idea)
Don't be obtuse, my guy. They absolutely have a reason to collect this information, because they couldn't provide you the game or its services if they didn't.
1: Many countries require players to provide a govt-issued ID to create accounts (like China and Korea). This is THE GOVT requiring the collection of this info, not the game company. They are just complying with regional law.
2: Maybe you have never purchased anything online ever with a credit card, but literally every time you do you have to provide the "Billing Address".
If your laws don't require you to provide an ID, then the "game company" isn't getting that info. If you do not purchase anything from them, then they aren't getting any of the info you are required to provide in order to make the purchase.
All the EULA is doing is telling you what they have to collect in order to take advantage of certain features. That's why 99% of it is prefaced with "IF YOU...". In other words, if you don't want to provide that data, then don't. Don't attach your Social Media. Don't purchase anything.
