Honestly I'm not even a fan of cash-shop cosmetics because it a financial incentive for the developers to make the cosmetics we can earn less appealing.
However, I accept that money has to be made somehow. I just wish we still had subscription models and no cash shops. The frustrating thing is this game does offer a subscription option, but on top of that they have a paid premium battlepass, and on top of that they sell currency for their cash shop. They have everything from the $100 options to the $1 option to get you comfortable with parting with your payment details so it's simpler for you after the first purchase.. the typical microtransaction headgames.
Seasons are six weeks in length and require you to level up a new character each season, and all map progress is reset. Some of the things you unlock during play (e.g. blueprints, mods) are considered account-wide unlocks and are retained from season to season.
Me personally im not getting attached to this game ill play it here and there and see how it goes
Possible P2W only if you consider the 10Lvl Boost from the Premium Battlepass as P2W.
Of course this still could be changed in the release version today but so far it seems the devs kept their word of no p2w.
It is purchasable in limited quantities because you can spend real money to boost through 15 levels of the reward track, which includes Starchrom on it.
Real Money > Starchrom = pay to win.
Real Money > Reward Track Boost > Starchrom = still pay to win.
Around 4:30 this fellow mentions that the devs have stated that they changed the crate items (presumably) to cosmetic currency.
Obviously I can't confirm but figured I'd mention it.
To be more clear, you get the Starcrom from the FREE battlepass and you will earn the same amounts without buying the premium battlepass. (There are NO currencies in the paid BP.)
Gyson is just stating that you get the starcrom somewhat faster if you have the paid BP as you get both the free BP items (including the currencies) as well as the paid cosmetic items.
A new character will never compete with an inflated seasonal character.
Well, its not as bad as it could have been but its a major advantage over time.
At least we know each account has only 1 character.
Imagine geting the pass for 3 characters at the same time?😬👍
I can't say how it scales with each BP level up, but the first 15 levels aren't going to take long, of that I am 97% sure.
A game doesn't need to be PvP to have pay-to-win. Pay-to-win is simply being able to use real money to purchase an advantage/power in a video game. There doesn't have to be a "win" condition or any sort of competition involved, it's just a phrase that has always been used to describe buying power.
If you're playing a single-player PvE shooter and can swipe your credit card to purchase more ammo, that's pay-to-win.
Like I said, in the context of Once Human it's not a massive deal. It's only concerning in that it shows the developers are willing to be loose with their definition, which rarely works out well for players in the long term.
