Potential high CPU usage fix using Nvidia Control Panel
Like in the previous Closed Beta Test, I fixed my high CPU usage by adding the game manually to Nvidia Control Panel.

1. Go to Nvidia Control Panel

2. Click on Manage 3D Settings

3. On the right hand side you will see 2 tabs; Global Settings and Program Settings. Click on Program settings, and then click "Add". If Once Human is not listed in your recent programs click on "Browse" and add the game's .exe file from the installation folder.

4. Boot up the game and see if that fixed the high CPU issues.

If you are unfamiliar on where to find your installation folder for Step 3, an easy way to do this is by going to your Steam Library, right click on the game, choose 'Manage" and then "Browse Local Files". From there you can find the game's .exe file, right click on it and select "Copy as Path". Back in Nvidia Control Panel, after selecting "Browse" to add a game manually, right click the empty field listed "File Name" and select paste. You should see a string similar to this:

"D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Once Human Demo\ONCE_HUMAN.exe"

Hope this helps

Adding a game to the Nvidia control panel, per se, is not supposed to do ANYTHING unless you change some significant setting.

This sound like a textbook case of placebo effect.

Setting medium preset, turn off v-sync (use nvidia control panel if you need v-sync), setting a fps limit in nvidia CP (use unlimited in game.)

These are the only known ways to reliably curb high cpu usage in this game.

I normally would agree but it really worked. I changed nothing else between closing and re-launching the game. I went from barely 50% GPU usage close to 99%, and fps from just over 60 to almost 120.

Not really, unless your games or 3d programs is listed are part of the nvidia program or use admin privileges. There's no auto-optimization applied on the driver level(That's why driver updates say updates for certain specific games...). It's just either random garbage auto config by geforce (especially the vsync/half v-sync or whatever nonsense) or by the windows OS itself.

Most notable is indie 3D games or overseas games from Japan or China...

AMD is less prone to said problem. But if it's not detected by adrenaline, it's still better to add it manually to game profiles system on the driver panel.

FYI, Windows 11 also have a settings to auto detect high performance or power savings under system/graphics. "Let windows decide"... Auto can suck sometimes.

A lot of people have suggested to turn off V-Sync and adjust other settings in game as a fix for high CPU usage, but it made no difference for me until I added the game to Nvidia CP.

I don't think NetEase would appreciate you slowing down their spyware

I know this is an older post but I have the nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 gpu and this solved my problem! A few weeks ago I started having lag/stuttering that pretty much made any kind of combat impossible. For the first minute or two of playing I would be fine - then the delays would start. I could take 2 or 3 "normal" footsteps then one laggy/slow step.

I am not that hardware savvy but I didn't see anything really wrong. My CPU wasn't high but thought I would give this a shot as I had tried everything else recommended I could find. I even installed through NetEase/Loading Bay to see if that helped. THIS FINALLY RESOLVED IT! I agree with everyone that said it SHOULDN'T make a difference but for some reason it does. Oddly, the metrics I was monitoring didn't really seem to change - the GPU 3D process still using almost 100%, and CPU, memory, Disk and Wifi throughput looks about the same - BUT I CAN RUN AGAIN!!! It isn't perfect and I still have a little lag that I can now probably address but the game is again playable.

So, a big thank you to Squirrel not only for putting this answer out there but for tolerating the people that doubted the truth of the post. I am one happy meta-human now!
