The real reason for the "code giveaway"
So, while it did seem odd that you could download the game without even making an account, seemed a bit odd, but whatever. I downloaded the game, chose a server and clicked Play. Turns out, you actually do need a key to activate the game, but how this was designed was ingenious.

Think about this for a moment. How does a game developer gather metrics on a game's popularity without actually, letting anyone "play" it. Well, you do what this company did and let people download the game and then request an activation key. Then you have a "free key giveaway" in which 100's or even 1000's of keys get posted on their Discord ( not entirely sure what they were thinking, but now it all makes sense ). Oddly enough, every key was used instantly. Which means either BOTs stole all the keys OR, none of the keys were real.

Hear me out cause this is the really good part. When you download the game, they still let you choose the server before hitting the Play button and amazingly after all these keys being taken instantly, EVERY single one of their 18 servers still shows LOW population. Interesting huh? 1000's of keys given out, yet you have 18 servers with LOW population?

Sounds to me like NetEase pulled a fast one on us and all this free giveaway was just a ploy to get some metrics.

I think i understand the sentiment behind this comment, but please believe me this isn't anything like the crap Fntastic pulled; because it's actually a pretty decent, functional game with story cinematic, voice acted dialogue, and some creepy sci-fi atmosphere - once you actually get in, it just needs work and polish.

I really enjoyed what i got to play during my playtest session which was back in early December.

Right now i have some of my Final Fantasy XIV FC-mates playing around with this game in Co-op (right this moment actually; they are in my discord playing it XD ) They seem to be enjoying it. I am personally just waiting for the full release later this year.

But again, please don't equate this game to that scam of a train wreak that was TDB. :(

That wasn't even the ♥♥♥♥ up I was referring to, but thank you adding to the list. Also, this is a public forum and as much as white knights like to boost a game with a bunch of bs. I agree the way the beta/codes were distributed feels super shady. I thought it was just mismanagement but I think greed and false advertising are in the mix. I started playing a few weeks ago and my server has been super quiet. I just uninstalled the game because I'm bored by it. There's a lot of hype for it but I think it will peter out once people get the game and see that they weren't missing anything special.

I don't even have a key. I visited their website and the start of Beta and it had "download" button instead of register for beta or w/e. I downloaded, I installed it and I logged with gmail. Unless they attach keys that you get in email with gmail account I have no idea how I get to play. I never got email with code. Tho didn't checked spam.

And stop about bots. Go and make one to see how much work it needs to grab a key and activate on a website. Now when you did all this work imagine doing that for one key, to get beta for a game. Does it sound realistic?

On Dec 6th it was open to all to join. NO invites no keys. On Dece the 10th, they had over 50K interested in the game. Dec 11th, all servers were capped with their queues. The cap begins at 1000. So many were queued non-stop. On the 11th, they announced that keys would be randomly sent to registered players after Dec 13th.

Since then, they have had reports of a few places selling beta keys. SO they tried other ways to pass them out with the same results.

As of today, they stopped handing out keys. Another test will happen in the spring.

Sure. But I still can play as of today. In fact just ended game session because going to sleep and I never activated any codes. And I just checked there's no email with a code in my box and in my spam. To be fair I even logged in with different account than I signed up for beta.

I just told you what happened and you showed you did not read what I said. From Dec 6th to Dec 12th, the beta was open to all.

Hmm, I don't see no download button anywhere but okay. Hope you having fun. I just want the game to be decent once it comes out.

There's nothing sus, I got a key on NYE and seen lots of players on the server I joined. Plus evidence of a lot more players from the player created buildings.
The next beta is Q2 or so, if you didn't get in wait till then. Game seems good tbh.

Just do some math (all numbers are claimed by them):

50.000 keys limit at the beginning
3.000 keys weekly
10.000 keys Christmas Gift
20,240 keys New Years Gift
Severall events inbetween and 3rd party keys as promotion.

Total usercount at Discord:
~200.000

By solely their numbers atleast every second person should have a key (200.000 users at discord and ~100.000 keys given out, as they claim), but their servers and the amount of people asking for keys show something different.
It all looks totally suspecious

Just seems rather odd that...

1) They had too many players in their first beta so they decided to switch to giving beta via emails
2) You can download and install the game without even getting a beta key. What's odd is you don't use your email to login, but rather Google, Facebook or Discord. So why the hell did we send an email verification for a beta key? Literally nothing about this makes any sense OTHER than some nefarious BS or fake beta key giveaway to gather metrics on player interest.
3) The beta key giveaway on Discord via text chat was both dumb and pointless. A lot of people tried random keys right after codes were posted and every single one came up as already used. What makes this really odd is the fact you can see server health because you can select a server before logging in. Out of the 18 servers they had up, only 1 wasn't LOW population. So please explain how 200,000+ players = 1 out of 18 servers without LOW population.

No offense, but I'm calling BS and until I see some actual numbers or server statistics, I don't believe any of the hype surrounding this game.

Really hope the game will have a small p2w side , cos like that maybe i wont see you and many other steam users like you who start trashing the game long before release.

The story was simple and true , they start as OPEN beta , they were expected between 5-15k players to join . Buts since the 2-nd or the 3-rd day all servers start to have log in quue for hrs and hrs , and in 4-th day they announced that interests was way higher than they expected, in que were over 100k players. Since 4-th day they implement code requirement to be able to CREATE char , cos they dont want to affect the players who ALREADY were in the game.
Now...i was one of the "bots" who got the key from discord...i was prepping before keys give away with game open at the code field , than i waited like 45 min , they give keys , copied one , try it , was already taken , copied another one and yes , i got a valid key. But was easy...cos im a "bot" right ?
"OMG they are chineeese , they will do do p2w omg omg , i hate them i hate the game" ...freeking tards

Yes, as I already stated. Out of the 18 servers, only 1 had a population that didn't say LOW. How does that explain your BS story? If the game is packed with players, then why do their own server status page show all of them as LOW population? Didn't even bother to show proof of your claim now did you? Of course not, because you're part of the problem.

i got scammed too, they sent me a key that didn't work. scummy company.

Jeez...im really blown away with this "conspiration theory" . Really ? Prolly you were one of the guys who thought covid was also fake , or earth is not round...riiiight !
History was very simple . They actually announce BEFORE they start open beta test that they will hope to have like 5-15k ppl trying the game . Since day 2 over 120k ppl were playing or were in que to enter on a server and try the game. Servers had que for hrs and hrs and they start having issuue with server stability and THATS why in 4-th day theyy add to creating char window a code requirement....COS THEY DONT want to huurt ppl who ALREADY were in the game. So ...players who ALREADY did create a char they could play.
Now...about discord bots who stole codes ....hahahahaha. Seems i was one of that bot mate. Cos i got one in the second try on a wave key ( they give a nr of keys in waves )

I know you are frustrated , but stop with this non-sense bs. Stop lying ppl
